Blair Witch disapointment?

Is anyone else dissapointed with the video
on The Blair Witch Project? In the cinema, the film used a mixture of aspect ratios.
The jump between the 16mm black and white
footage and the color(Hi8?) footage was obvious and used to great effect, I thought.
Although it would have been difficult to
preserve this on DVD, without making it a
widescreen only disc, would it not be possible to produce two versions of the disc?
As for the ridiculous matting of the picture, I'll say no more.
I rate this as one of the best films of 1999, despite it's shortcommings, and feel it deserves better. Extras are all well and good but it's the video and sound reproduction that count. Any comments?

The matting was the studios idea, from what I could gather about the creators interview here. It is a little disappointing that these fellows were not more involved with the making of the dvd of their film, but when they step away, what can you do? Maybe a 'special edition' version in the future that was alluded to will correct these issues, but until then...its still a fun romp!
