If you haven't seen the widescreen edition on LD or DVD - you're in for a real treat!
The old VHS and TV editions are faded and in horrible condition. The DVD has a wonderful edition of the film with stunning colour and beautifully crisp images. It makes you quickly realize why it is considered one of the best Westerns of all time. If you don't have it - get it! A superb copy of a great film.

Thanks tvboy! I have not yet seen either the LD or DVD. It has been on my buy list for a while but I have been a little nervous due to the fact that I could not find a good review out there.
Also, I can pick it up through Columbia House as one of my inexpensive purchases to fulfill my enrollment agreement. |

You're going to love it!
A number of years ago a friend of mine joined Columbia House's VHS club and got The Searchers. It was the old pan & scan master from a horribly faded print. All yellowy-brown tinted. Low resolution. Your typical crap transfer. I showed him the Laser Disc of it with restored print in letterbox. He nearly cried.
