Dinosaurs - Worth a Blind Buy?

A local Wherehouse records/video store is going buh-bye and I finally took a look at what they had left (new DVDs 40% off).

I picked up some titles I didn't have Ghostbusters, Gosford Park, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, and Bruce Lee: A Warriors Journey .

Pickings were pretty slim, I should have gone in a lot sooner and maybe picked up some Criterions (long gone).

They did have Dinosaurs and I was tempted to pick it up but hesitated never having seen it.

I'm going to go back and see if I can pick up another copy of Dragon (they had a couple) for my brother and was wondering if Dinosaurs is worth a blind buy. Are the story and characters any good? The CGI doesn't concern me much...

Of course it may not be there when I return making this discussion moot :p

Do you mean Dinosaur, the Disney film from a few years ago? If so, the story and characters are the weakest part of the film. It's not that they're awful, pretty mediocre I'd say. It's just that the weaknesses stand out because the visuals are just about the most breathtaking captured in a film. Unrivaled audio and video on the DVD, but as a movie, there are problems. You may want to rent it first. But if it's like $10 or less, you'd be better off just buying and selling if you don't like it. You'd easily be able to get back what you paid for it if it's heavily discounted.

The animation in Dinosaur was awesome, but the story was awful. It was just 80 minutes of a dinosaur walking around with monkeys riding his back. Boring.

edit - I forgot the "g" in boring.

I guess I'll pass on it. It's about $17-18 at 40% off $29.99

The animation in the film is truly breathtaking at times, but the characters are so generic, and the dialogue so inane, that anyone over the age of eight will most likely find themselves looking at their watches more than at the screen.

Just get the first Land Before Time (skip the horrid, direct-to-video "cheapquels"), which has what $200+ million couldn't buy in Dinosaur: charm.
