Best popcorn movies to own

What are the best popcorn movies?

Some of my favorites in no particular order are:

-Jurassic Park
-The Lost World: Jurassic Park
-Jurassic Park III
-The Mummy
-Men In Black
-Speed
-Spider-Man
-Terminator 2: Judgement Day
-The 6th Day
-Mask of Zorro
-Rush Hour 2

Those are the ones that I own on dvd (the first 8) or would want to own (the last 3). I think it's rare that a popcorn movie is very good. Anyways you can name as many as you want...

Point Break
The Terminator

I've always felt that they are movies that are pretty much purely entertainment, with no real message or need to think about anything. Movies during which you can shut off your brain and have a good time. Men in Black, The Rock, Blade, and American Pie would be movies I'd consider good "popcorn flicks". Of course, there's lots more, but that's off the top of my head. I don't see how anybody could consider Requiem for a Dream a popcorn flick, though..

My favorites (not counting Star Wars and stuff that hasn't been released yet) are Back to the Future and of course, Jurassic Park. Also, Moulin Rouge, if that fits the description.

I think Requiem for a Dream is the anti popcorn movie - especially because it's not recommended to be eating while watching it.

My absolute favorite #1 watch-it-all-the-time popcorn movie is "SCREAM". It's not really at all scary, which is really why it's so charming. Just an incredibly entertaining, well-done pseudo-comedy.

Other favorites are the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Friday the 13th" -- great party movies

...of course it could just be the fact that "Scream" has cute Matthew Lillard, "Nightmare on Elm Street" has cute young Johnny Depp, and "Friday the 13th" has cute young Kevin Bacon...

Arigato,
Brook

I agree with many that have already been mentioned, but my favorite movie for pure fun may be Desperado.

I don't think I'd consider Starship Troopers a popcorn flick.. Well, maybe. To me, it's more a thinking movie disguised as a popcorn flick.

That's true. I like the way that you descibed it as "a thinking movie disguised as a popcorn flick". I guess I wasn't thinking of all of the fascist overtones when I made my list. I was thinking of it as an over-the-top movie that is great fun to watch. I guess the combination of the two elements makes it appealing for me.

I have seen far to many popcorm movies that just SUCKED HARD, but there have been many that were able to stick with me afterwards, movies that I put on for background sound or just because I have nothing else to do and I'm not in the mood to think about what movie I want to see:

Anything by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
The Die Hard movies
All 5 Star Wars movies (um... please don't ask how I got them on DVD... )
The Batman movies (Yes, all of them. All 4. No, I'm not masochistic. Well, maybe a little...)
The Men in Black movies
The Back to the Future movies (GOD, how many series do I have up here now?)
Spider-Man (There, that's better)
The Core (yea, it's still in theaters, but it's pure popcorn fun)
Michael Bay films
Street Fighter
EVIL DEAD!!!!!
Now that I've admitted to the last two, I think I'd better start running like hell before the s*** hits the fan.

What on earth do you mean "admitted to" for Evil Dead? ED is a great movie, and I'm pretty sure there are quite a few fans on the forum..
