Lolita Signature Series

Anyone know if this will have anything new aside from the jacket?

I've never seen the Adrian Lyne version, but the Kubirck adaptation (as well as the book itself) is one of my favorites. Irons seems like a perfect choice for Humbert Humbert, but.... is the movie REALLY any good?

yeah, this is a really good adaptation. The kubrick one has a bit more detail on Quilty, but I still like Adrian Lyne's version way better.

The Adrian Lyne one is laughable. Just like with every other Adrian Lyne movie, he randomly interjects slow motion and closeups of everything and lots of sex to appear "artsy". Plus it's really serious, and the thing I love about the book is that it's really funny. The kubrick version faithfully adapts the book's humor, this one makes it seem like some sort of soap opera. It just takes itself waaay too seriously.

I own both of these and I feel the Kubrick version is far superior.

I am a big Jeremy Irons fan, but I did not like the Lyne remake as much as the Kubrick original. The Lyne version is watchable and worth a peek, but maybe for a rental rather than a purchase if you are unsure.

Now I almost always upgrade a disk if a new version comes out. For a change I will not be upgrading this disk.

Knowing Lyne's style of direction, I think I perfectly understand what you're saying here. Regardless, as Flash suggested, I'll give this one a rent just for kicks. I'm a big fan of Jeremy Irons, he's an excellent actor (and perhaps the only older man in Hollywood I've found to be even vaguely attractive ^_^), so hopefully the film can't be devoid of anything positive.

Arigato,
Brook

From the box art, they both look the same except, The Signature Series is listed as being 16x9 but it loses the trailer.

I think I'll pick up the new one, even though I don't have any use for 16x9.

Did you know...

... that if anyone here in the UK got caught trying to import a foreign copy of this movie, they would get their doors booted in by the police during the early hours of the morning?

This is because the BBFC (we're not censors, we are CLASSIFERS) has ruled that one of the deleted scenes breaches child pornography definitions.

The movie has always been released without said extras.

Oh well...

Woah - I never realised that. I was gonna ask the guy who runs the store where I get my DVDs from if he could get me this copy of Lolita (I never picked it up originally, though I have the Kubrick version as part of the Kubrick boxset). That's strange, because I read a similar thing about the Canadian uncut version of L.I.E not being allowed in the country (It'd better be, as It's on the shelf to the left of me )
