BTTF II & III Have Come Back to Me!

When I got home from school this afternoon, there was a big package on the kitchen table waiting for me. Sender was cited as Universal Studios Home Video, and I knew immidately what it was.

For those of you who, like I did, are worrying about how the replacement DVDs will be packaged, fear no longer; allow me to put those to rest. Mine came in a big cardboard box; inside that was a bunch of wadded up paper to keep the discs safe, and then when you get that out you'll see the two discs. They come in two seperate single-disc white CD cases and mine are in good condition overall. The person who packaged mine put Part II in first at the bottom with Part III on top of or next to it, so you'll probably see the Part III disc first, but they're both there. I can also confirm the previously stated fact that "V2" appears on the discs themselves right after the copyright line. Also, the middle of the discs cover up some of the title, more than was on the faulty discs or Part I, just FYI.

Also in the box is a letter from Universal listing the contents (namely, the replacement discs), thanking their "valued customer" for continually supporting Universal's DVD product (ha!)and providing an email address/phone number for people to call if they have more questions. No appology for misframing them in the first place, though, and that would have been nice, even on a form letter.

I have yet to watch them, but thought you'd all like to know they got here and are in good condition; yours should be arriving soon too.

Thanks for filling us in Jake.

I guess it's time for me to call the 1-888 number and send mine in.

How long ago did you originally send yours in, Jake? Just so I have some idea as to how long it will take.

Yeah, in the alt.video.dvd newsgroup, people started reporting getting them on Monday.

Now I can start looking for the new box sets at the stores and finally pick up myself.

Do you remember what the date that you sent them back was? That would be a helpful bit of info.

According to my post office reciept I sent mine back March 5. If you haven't sent them out yet, yours should get here faster though since I sent mine off before the transfers were finished; now that they are, I'd assume replacements will ship much faster since you don't have to wait for them to FINISH the retransfer.

And, just a heads up that I forgot to include in my first post in this thread: The CD cases they come in are shrinkwrapped, too.

When I get around to watching them - probably sometime this weekend - I'll let you guys know my thoughts on the transfer. I never watched the bad discs on the knowlege they were bad, but I've seen several screenshots and know where a lot of it is defective, so if it's of any worth, I'll chime in about the new transfer as soon as I can. Bob Gale told BTTF.com that while they don't EXACTLY match the laserdisc, he's satisfied with them, and they got review copies themselves before replacements were shipped and gave it their okay. So, there you are.

Also, could you check and see if the sound distortion problems are still there as well?

A question for Jake?

or anyone else who's received their V2 corrected discs back. Did Universal send them media mail or 1st class US Mail. I sent mine in a couple months ago & I emailed them the other day to ask if they knew when mine had been shipped. They said March 31st (1st day of shipping) & they haven't arrived yet. If they are coming by media mail I won't worry as they'll probably get here in the next day or 2 but if they went 1st class then they should definitely be here by now.

I'm not sure what shipping service they chose, sorry. I was so excited to have them back I tore open the package immidately. They said expect two weeks so you should get them by the 14th or 15th at the latest.

Having not actulally seen them, I'm not sure what the sound problems were, but bttf.com says they're fixed.

Another day, another empty mailbox. This is very frustrating. I guess mailing them in early wasn't a guarantee of early delivery (or they were shipped media mail which means they could take God knows how long).

Edit: April 10th. Still no bttf dvds in mailbox. Getting very pissed at Universal.:rar:

Mine arrived yesterday -- I haven't had the chance to watch them yet, but I was rather pleased with the way they were shipped. I noticed the V2 stamp, too....

I haven't sent mine off yet. But I do have the envelope from Universal waiting to be sent. I wonder now though if having the screwed up version would be a collector's item? Not that it would be worth that much. Just something interesting to keep.

Mine showed up today. (finally!) I popped in Part, II to check the infamous jacket resizing scene and it is totally fixed. You can now see the sleeves rise to meet both of Marty's wrists. (as it always should have been)

I checked the box it shipped in and I didn't see any evidence of the words "First Class Mail" on it. What I can tell you it that I sent mine back on Feb. 3. The box they came in today was postmarked April 1. So that's 8 days from TX (where It was sent from) to PA (where I am).

I agree with the original assessment of the packaging. Everything arrived in tip top condition and hey, two free jewel cases to boot.

I read elsewhere that the warble during the dance is now gone, but the (much more minor) audio distortion as the delorean first lands in the future is still there.

If you are referring to the minor warble in the saxaphone when Marty first enters the dance, it is still there.

I detect no audio distortion at all however as the Delorean first lands in the future.

Wait a second, they stacked Part III on top of Part II?

Boycott Universal!

(sorry, just found it weird that you made a point to mention that)

Not that it's really important but either they were packed differently or Jake's shifted during shipping. When I opened the box the jewel cases were placed one right next to the other and held in place with big wads of packing paper. When you lifted the paper both titles were in clear vlew.

I just got home from picking up Harry Potter & the mailman brought me my beautiful V2's (& an autographed 8 X 10 of Hayley Mills in the Parent Trap from an autograph show). Can this day get any better?

Nope. That guys out of his mind or just really needs new contacts. The framing is fine now. I think whoever he is, he misunderstands what the "misframing" problem was in the first place. His claim that it now only affects the bottom left side but not the right side makes no sense.

Why even bother with the mailer? Just put them in a heavy padded envelope and mail them. That's what I did and the total cost for first class mail was 83 cents. Hardly worth waiting weeks for a mailer to save that amount. Just mail them and get it over with.

Now the question is, are the corrected versions in stores and how can we tell the difference!

I guess that's two questions.

the one in stores should say "V-2" or something like that.

Don't bother. Universal hasn't released the V2 discs to stores yet, nor have they decided exactly how they're going to do it. When they decide, I'm sure they'll make an announcement, but until then you're wasting your time by going to stores and searching for something that's not there.

don't bother calling they'll just put you on hold then come back and give you the e-mail adress which they don't bother reading anything sent to.

Well, I shipped mine out in February and haven't gotten 'em back yet. Someone should set a reminder to go check on MovieMan in a week or so - he might need something to eat.
