Movies where people run away from big fireballs.

I was playing a video-game and it included this cheesy (but classic) cliche and it made me laugh and think of all the movies that have had people running down corridors/tunnels/caves and barely escaping death, with the flames even licking their heels sometimes. Slow-motion and everything.

-The Rock: Explosion in the sewers beneath Alcatraz. (has a obvious body-double for Sean Connery in this shot. The guy is way too bulky)

Try every Hollywood action movie from roughly 1990 to today.

I liked that Simpsons episode where Homer is getting chased by an angry mob at a candy convention(!), and he takes a can of cola, shakes it up, adds a bag of pop rocks, and hurls it at the crowd, shouting, "See you in hell, candy boys!" He then runs out the door in slow motion as the entire convention center explodes behind him.

I remember that episode Monterey Jack Gotta love Pop Rocks.

There's one in Independence Day where Boomer, the pet dog, makes a heroic leap from an explosion in a tunnel. My friends and I would always shout at that part "Go Booooomer!! - you can dooo it!!" in slow motion. Fun times.

. . . adding to the Hollywood cliche . . .

The person running away usually avoids incineration by jumping into a body of clear water that has a camera positioned at the bottom so we can see the fireball pass overhead.

I've seen this cliche countless times, even Arnie did it once. Was in True Lies if memory serves.

Didn't Brendan Fraser outrun the Sun in that god-awful The Mummy Returns? I seem to remember him actually outrunning the Sun. That's impossible.

Daylight (i'm sure there was a fireball somewhere!)
Eight Legged Freaks (being chased by the big spider at the end)

and while not a fireball, I believe the stars of Titanic ran away from slow motion water...

Also see Judge Dredd.

Dredd and Fergie entering Mega City One through the incinerator shaft run from a huge fireball.

There's the time when Richard Pryor had a free-basing accident and ran out of his house WITH flaming balls of fire....
But that's not exactly what you're looking for, is it?

Bruce Willis in Die Hard - avoiding the elevator shaft fireball. He's not really running, but it's a narrow, spectacular escape...

Just rented it yesterday...

Gotta watch "The Relic" for the biggest explosion at the end. Not only does Penelope Ann Miller have enough time to outrun the monster, but she closes every door behind her, gets into a tank used for softening up body tissue, yell "You Go to Hell" to the monster, and close the lid. Only then does the fireball consume everything.

Even so, I still love this movie!!!

Nope. It's also not nearly as clever or funny as you seem to think it was.

- I remember that scene!

Yeah, that's really the literal definition of people running away from really, really REALLY big fireballs. I gotta find a screencap of that one...

I personally prefer the Robert Rodriguez method of walking while the explosion occurrs directly behind you.

See Desperado and From Dusk Til Dawn for examples.
