Buffy: Once More With Feeling

The musical episode of Buffy: Once More With Feeling is now out in reg2 land, on its own at Amazon UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...689732-4567636

I thought this was a great, fun idea. Is there a region 1 counterpart, or is there one scheduled?

I don't think it's really necessary... I'll just buy the season set that includes that episode when it comes out...

Yes, it will be in the season 6 box set, where it belongs.

I agree with Rhett. Yeah the episode was fun but out of the context of the rest of the season it's fairly meaningless. I'm only interested in having it in it's proper sequence, in the box. I've no desire to own it as a single entity.

I don't know. The episode does stand out on its own. I have a multi region player and bought the DVD of just this episode and will wait for Region 1 to get the whole season.

Just like the soundtrack for this episode was released on its own, it does stand alone as just a great musical.

Sorry if it seemed I was threadcrapping before...

I checked amazon.com and they didn't have a listing for it. When did it come out in region 2 in relation to the season sets?

It came out two weeks ago on Region 2, check out amazon.co.uk. I'm sure you will find it there. It came out the same day as the season box set.

And no, there are no announced plans for a Region 1 release. I think syndication rights may have something to do with it.

I don't know what the plans are for if they will also do an individual release. I wouldn't be surprised if they do. A lot of people who wouldn't buy a season box set would pick up the episode. We'll know in a couple years when it finally gets around to releasing that season.

Ummm... why? If you're a big enough fan of Buffy to buy a single episode on DVD for like $20, why wouldn't you want the season for $50... makes no sense to me. But hey, neither does the Married With Children "greatest episodes" discs when seasons sell so much better, so who knows...

Now keep in mind that this is just my opinion but I don't think it does stand alone as a great musical. I thought that in the context of the show the songs, while not fantastic, worked for the story. I think that for a first time effort Joss (a self proclamined amateur when it comes to music) did a great job coming up with the songs but I would not want to put them on in my car and listen to them. They just weren't that good.

Agreed 100%. It would make no sense. Why get just one episode of anything? If you are a big enough fan to by one, logic dictates you'd probably want them all. And if your not a Buffy fan at all, you'd likely want none of them. Of course whoever get's the stand alone episode and season 6 will have a double. Talk about usless.

No, they were not released simultaneously. Boxset for Season 6 is coming out next May 12th.

The single episode would probably be in the $15 range.

But the main thing is the price. A lot of people don't have the $50 to spend on a box set, or don't want to spend that much on one. They don't feel the need to buy a full season of a TV show.

While the major fans will buy the box set, the casual viewer (the people who would never buy the box set) may just buy the one episode.

I mean, I've bought all the Buffy seasons and will buy the rest. But, I have yet to watch them. Meanwhile, I have watched the ONCE MORE WITH FEELING DVD several times.

FYI, I bought the R2 release of the episode and received it Friday. Since it's a good year until S6 comes out in R1, and I really liked this episode (even out of context), I wanted to enjoy it until then.

One note: I'm playing the disc on a U.S. Xbox equipped with an R2 DVD kit (note: if you try this, the R2 kit must be the first DVD kit ever plugged into the Xbox!), and the disc plays fine EXCEPT that I cannot select Play Episode or Resume Episode - I get a freeze up. Instead, I can only play the show from the Scene Selections screen (any scene works, including "Previously on Buffy"). Not sure why, but it's a viable workaround. So far, this is the only R2 disc I've had any problem with.

Also, the Music featurette has nothing to do with the musical episode. I had hoped it was the documentary footage that one of the exec producers shot of the Making Of "Once More With Feeling." While it's an OK featurette about the role music plays in the series, it's not worth owning this disc just for this bonus tidbit.

Also, some may be fans of just this episode and not the series. I know at least one person who likes musicals and has only ever seen this episode of Buffy.

Me too. Although the episode is awesome, the lyrics and general storyline wouldn't make any sense to a person who never seen the show before. OMWF is not just some episode that can be watched out of context, it moves the season 6 story arcs along as much as a normal episode would. I would get this episode stand-alone if it was available in R1, but I'm not dying to have it. I do, however, listen to the soundtrack all the time .

The same company in the UK releases both discs. There are a lot of ads for other series on the DVD.
