Back To The Future Corrected Discs!

I hope that posting this message here is acceptable....and I apologize if I am posting it on the incorrect board:

For a couple of months, I have called the famous (infamous?) Back To The Future Discs 2 and 3 Return phone number....1-888-703-0010. I continually ask the same questions....and, of course, they either give you the same non-answers....or have no clue as to what to say....and so I am posting this here in case anyone has had better luck....or has any knowledge at all of what the answers either are....or might be:

Yes....I have received the envelope in which to return Discs 2 and 3 to:

BTTF DVD RETURNS
PO BOX 224468
DALLAS, TX 75260

I understand you just put the two discs in....with a letter....stating your name, address and daytime phone number....and your reason for returning the discs. Universal will, in turn, send you the corrected discs.

Now....how are we to know that indeed the envelope doesn't become lost or damaged on the way there....or on the way back? As far as I know, there is no way of knowing when (and that's a separate question) you can even expect the corrected discs back....and so you might wait two months only to discover that they never got the discs in the first place....so they certainly are not going to be sending you anything in return. And what would be your proof that you indeed did send them if they became lost....and who would you even call to alert them of this fact since there is just this one phone number which just takes down your name/address/phone number....and knows virtually nothing else about this whole process?

Next....let's say I decide to make Universal richer by purchasing a brand new corrected set. This way I would have one "bad" set....and one "good" set....kind of a collector's edition....in a way. I heard there is this V2 that we are supposed to look for on the box in stores? Where is this V2 insignia located....and....well, let's be frank about this. Most stores haven't even sold their first batch yet....and they are definitely not going to be carrying more sets! Does anyone know where one can find these sets?

And yes....that third question was basically....has anyone who has sent their discs back received the corrected ones? If so....what was the turnaround time from the time you sent the discs back....to the time you received your new ones?

Thank you very much!

This has been covered in half a dozen other threads but 1) I would certainly send them back but spend an extra 55 cents & send them with delivery confirmation. You will then have proof of shipment & of receipt by them. If they were to get lost (very rare) you'd still have proof that you sent them. Should you need to call Universal there is a non toll free number (I don't remember the number but a search of this board should turn it up quickly). You'll actually get to talk to someone who speaks English at this number. 2) I wouldn't keep the defective set as a collector's item. It's much better to return for the corrected discs. 3) I got mine back & the sound, picture & new widescreen trailers are well worth the wait. Sending them in now I would expect to get them in 2-4 weeks.

Leap of faith, same with mailing anything else. You can, as Bill said, send it with confirmation or a return receipt. (which I guess will work for a PO Box but I'm not sure) Either way they will send you a letter (not an email, a letter) when they get it to let you know they got it. (at least they did with me and some others on here) I wouldn't worry too much about them getting lost, Netflix bases their whole business around this "DVDs in the mail" premise.

The letter I refered to arrived 1 month and 5 days after I sent mine back.

The V2 is on the back, top right of the box near the bar code where it tells you that the movie is widescreen. I haven't seen any of them in the stores so far and while I haven't been in to check yet the guy at my Suncoast said that as soon as the V2s come in all the others will be pulled and sent back leaving only the V2s on the shelf. At the Best Buy I go to they haven't had the "faulty" widescreen version on their shelves for months which would indicate to me that they already pulled it.

A lot of us mailed them back before the new versions were ready to go hence, a lot of the time waiting was because they didn't have anything to send back yet. We were waiting for the new versions to be pressed. Now that that is done I would imagine turn around time could/should/would be faster. I mailed mine back in early Feb. when the new versions were said to be released in late Feb. Then in early Feb. they changed it to late March. As for my time frame:

- Feb. 3: Discs mailed back to Universal

- March 8: Received letter from Universal saying discs were received

- March 31: Replacements shipped

- April 1: Replacements postmarked

- April 9: Replacements arrive in my mailbox

I sent in my discs and got the replacement ones about 3 weeks later (I'm estimating here...it wasn't an unreasonable amount of time though.) Everything was hunky-dory, so go ahead and go for it.

I know this has probaly be asked numerous times before but I have had computer problems for the past months and since there is this thread about it I'll ask it here.

Assuming the fixed version is in the stores now, how can I tell?

The answers are found in that thread regarding the corrected disks.

We don't need too many BTTF threads, do we?
