Family Guy Edits

I think a group of us should start a petition to Fox about the poor judgement they used in releasing the Family Guy. I am very upset that they have edited quite a few jokes that they think I should not see. Also when I think about it,when a movie is played on broadcast television and they edit it for content they at least tell you, but on the Family Guy DVDs (which I PAY for) there is no such label on the box stating that it has been edited. I feel ripped off and am very upset that some of these jokes saw airtime on the Fox network but can't be shown on a DVD set that I bought. I hope other people feel the same way I do and that Fox gets the message DON'T edit things without a warning. I was expecting the Family Guy I know and love and what I got was someone elses idea of what I should see or should I say NOT see!!!!!!!!!!

Seth McFarlane, the creator, didn't fight to keep any of the "censored" scenes in, so I'm not going to get worked up about it.

It's the issue with the commentaries that I'm a bit annoyed by. But a petition isn't going to do anything. A petition to do what? Re-release the boxset??

Not a petition in the sense of getting something, but just to let Fox know that they really let the fans of the Family Guy down big time, and that we are not happy about it and that they should clean up there act before putting out the next season.

Also just to make my point clear there are many edits to this set including the JFK Pez dispenser scene is gone, the Bin Laden Scene is gone, a scene where Stewie has a flashback dream where there was a Nazi Chant in the background has been edited away and then the famous Unaired episode missing from the box set all together. This kind of censorship should never be tolerated!!!!!! Especially on something you pay for with your hard earned money

I could have completely accepted the censorship if FOX hadn't screwed up with the hideous jittering of the video that only clears up 55% of the time by the 3rd disc

Weinstein will be on the second set. If this stuff doesn't bother Mcfarlane that much you shouldn't let it bother you,

I heard that the R2 sets are unedited, is there any truth to that?

Which was originally planned for the third season, and has already been confirmed that it will be included in the next set. If you're going to get worked up about something, you need to know the facts.

And the jittering was explained in the commentary. They said that it happened during the animation process. Like when they had to slow something down (like Peter walking down the stairs in the episode where they move into a mansion) or freeze frame a part of the shot.

I totally agree, FOX should of put something on the outside of the box saying that some jokes that were orginally aired on TV have been edited out.

They only said that was used for that specific spot- which did look the worst out of ALL of the box set, that doesn't account for the other 3 discs worth.

But it is viewable, so I'm reasonably entertained!

I'm surprised that not more of a fuss has been made over the commentaries being edited, especially after Fox puts the disclaimer on the front of each disc. Also, in the interview A Bunker linked to above, it seems to imply that they recorded commentaries for every episode, but we only got 8?!?!? What the F---?

Out of all of things, the jittery video really sucks. On a 61" TV, it looks like total ass.

The Family Guy edits don't bother me too much. Censorship does really suck, but if it is true that MacFarlane told Fox to take some stuff out, I would think the studio has to respect the creator's wishes.

I also never caught much of the material that was edited when it was still in the show on the original airdates. I'm just happy to have the show on DVD so I can catch all the episodes I missed.

I love my Family Guy set, I do hate the jittering, the packaging and the slight censorship - but that is jus becuase FOX is an inferior network that's all there is to it. The episodes themselves are what counts, and they are fantastic! I can't wait for the Cheers DVDs to come

I just think its great this many people love The Family Guy enough to post their thoughts! All the attention might make for more special features on the next set.

the Region 2 sets have commentaries on every episode right? it would be great if someone with the R2's could dub the commentaries to mp3s and post them somewhere.

That means nothing. There's no specs listed at all except the price and number of discs. Doesn't even mention the Weinstein episode that'll be on there. Amazon usually lists this stuff as sooon ad they have a price and release date.
Specs have not been announced and until they are we won't know for sure.
Also, claiming Fox is an inferior network is a pretty silly thing to say. Especially about a show that IT brought to life (think NBC would touch it?) and now DVD. Not to mention their fantastic handling of The Simpsons sets and what I hear are pretty darn good Futurama sets. Don't forget the X-File sets either.

I might be wrong on this one but wasn't there a joke regarding George Harrison and the man who broke into his home and stabbed him? I seem to recall seeing that one in an episode that I watched in college which would be the first two seasons. I thought it was a pretty funny gag. Does anyone remember that?

about the commentaries
from tvshowsondvd.com

I thought they did a fantastic job. I actually didn't have a whole lot to do with the packaging, I didn't have anything to do with that. We went in and did commentary.

How was that?

That was fun, it was just pure enjoyment.

You guys didn't talk enough!

Well, they actually cut a lot of stuff out.

Really?

Yeah, we were pretty much yakking from start to finish and there was a lot edited for content, which I don't really understand on a DVD release because it's strictly for the fans. That would be my only complaint about how the release was handled, but otherwise the transfers were incredibly crisp, the colors look great, the sound is great and the way they packaged it, I think they did a really terriffic job.

Going to Toonzone.com auto-links me to Whitehouse.com, which is currently in the process of being re-designed according to the front page. But it's world-famous as a "steal" of Whitehouse.gov, for unthinking and unsavvy web-users who use .COM for all their URLs and don't know about .GOV or others.

It's basically a porn site, when it's working.

Is there a Toonzone.net or a Toonzone.org that is the real one instead? Or is this even the right URL?

As DVDGod mentions, there was an interview with Seth at TVShowsOnDVD.com that was excellent (and he mentions the Weinstein ep being on Vol. 2 there)...is that the interview you mean? Or did Seth do mulitple interviews for different websites?
