Strangers With Candy DVD's

I recall reading (I'm pretty sure it was here on the DVD File) several months ago that Comedy Central was going to be releasing several of their series on DVD- one of them was "Strangers With Candy." I think the date was July or August, but I've never read anything else about it. Does anyone know anything?

I can't wait for it to come out-it's one of the funniest shows ever.

Comedy Central now has the box set up for Pre-order on their web site.

...it doesn't have a release date, and it says it'll be shipped in 5-6 weeks, but it at least shows that it's officially coming out!

(Edit: Though sites are announcing a June 17 release...)

Comedy Central is probably the only channel I watch, but I've still never seen this... what is it?

Here's an altered quote from Comedy Central®'s website:

Quote:
Jerri Blank (played to perfection by Amy Sedaris), a self-described "user, boozer and loser," takes on the perils and pratfalls of high school in this critic and cult hit. Strangers with Candy twists the conventions of the classic after-school special to create a completely original comedy series.

It's a VERY dark comedy about a 40 year old bisexual ex-convict prostitute high school drop-out who decides to move back home with her family (who hate her) and go back to high school. All the characters are on a whole unlikeable (within the first season the main character ends up killing someone with homemade drugs, give a baby a broken aluminium can to play with, find her long-lost son and attempt to have sex with him, and other fun things)

Of course, I'd just suggest hitting up

this quotes page to give you examples of what kind of 'humor' you'd be dealing with if you were to look into it.

Is CC still broadcasting this show? When I still had cable, there were only a handful of episodes repeated over and over again.

Not that I wouldn't buy this on DVD in a heartbeat, though... some of this material is classic!

Ohhhh, this is going to be quite awesome! "Strangers With Candy" is one of the most unique shows I've ever seen. Watching it, I laugh so much, yet I also feel so terrbily depressed at the same time. Completely brilliant series.

Arigato,
Brook

Here's some interesting Strangers with Candy news that I read in Entertainment Weekly (issue # 715) today. It comes from their 'Deal Report':

Quote:
Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello, and Stephen Colbert have a deal to adapt their cult Comedy Central series, Strangers with Candy, into a feature film.
I don't know about you guys, but that's just music to my ears! I'm really happy for the creators. I can't imagine that there's a huge built-in audience, but if the material they come up with is as darkly satirical as the show was, it could be a moderate sleeper hit.

What I'm wondering the most, though, is how the "after-school special" feeling of the show will end up translating to the big screen. It'll still be a kick any way you look at it!
