Murder on the Orient Express

The 1974 all-star mystery "Murder on the Orient Express" really deserves to be on DVD - it is more talky than anything else, but there is great acting and it's a must for mystery fans! Does anyone know who owns the rights to this or why it's not yet on DVD?

It was produced by EMI and distributed by Paramount, and the most recent video release was by Paramount, but Anchor Bay has distributed most or all of the EMI mystery movies on DVD. If Paramount doesn't do the DVD, then Anchor Bay might, because of their connections with the EMI library.

If you have multi-region players and PAL compatible TV's, this title has had several R2 releases (at least British, Dutch & Nordic).

I told y'all 'bout this around late August last year:

Nice cover. Good to see 'em use one of the theatrical poster images.

Oh, no problem - wasn't mentioning it in that way at all.

Just wanted some people to know that my news wasn't faked up.

Everyone should own this DVD. Watched it yesterday. Brilliant. Worthy of Academy Award nominations and win.

Albert Finney was only 38 when he played Hercule Poirot. Incredible. What an actor! We've got:

Bogie's Babes, Lauren Bacall and Ingrid Bergman

Tybalt, aka Michael York

Bond, aka Sean Connery

Sir John Gielgud (RIP)

"Mother!", Anthony Perkins (RIP)

Guenevere, aka Vanessa Redgrave

Pretty Angel's Godmother, Jacqueline Bisset

Jim Bowie, aka Richard Widmark

...all brilliantly directed by legendary Syney Lumet

Let us not forget the starring role of The Orient Express. You cannot watch this movie and not want to ride that train.

The DVD is excellent and provides such a contrast to the washed out, massively edited, t.v. version I know.

Only one problem for me: There was a blue spot in the left side of the screen for about 3 minutes.

Sound was good and the bonus features are superb (didn't even expect to get any at such a good retail price).

From IMdb:
Quote:
This was the only film adaptation in her lifetime that Agatha Christie was completely satisfied with. In particular, she felt that Albert Finney's performance came closest to her idea of Poirot.
Best Agatha Christie adaptation made.

Thank God Paramount released this with the original theatrical artwork.

Perhaps someone will one day explain to me why this wasn't done for The Warriors...

just bought this for my wife ...9.99 at best buy.

Although she's a Yustinov fan over Finney, its a great movie,
and she's watching it now.
