Alfred Hitchcock's - The Birds
Just kind of curious - is anybody going to pre-order this one and where would you rank it in Alfred Hitchcock's films - Me personally it would probably rank as #8 or #9 among his films.
The really good news is with this title coming on 3/28 it will clear the way for Rear Window and eventually North by Northwest - definitely 2 top 5 films!! |

Already pre-ordered!!
The Birds is deeply embedded in my childhood memories. This is one of three movies that really scared the crap out of me when I was in single digits. The other two: The Wizard Of Oz (those flying monkeys) and The Time Machine (the Morlocks). Really looking forward to another Universal SE. As far as I'm concerned, they can't get their Hitchcock library out soon enough! ------------------ Too many DVDs, too little time... |

Already pre-ordered it.
For me, it's somewhere in the middle. There's what I regard as the "A" titles, such as Rear Window, North by Northwest, The 39 Steps, Vertigo, Psycho, Notorious, and Rebecca. And then there's the "B" level, which, while still good, doesn't quite reach the "A" level. Those would be Strangers on a Train, Spellbound, Lifeboat, Sabotage, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rope, and The Birds. It should be said that Hitchcock's "B" level films are still better than most other directors' best films. |

The only problem with Rear Window is that we have to wait at least another whole year before we'll be able to see it on DVD. Why they are doing this is beyond me, but the latest info I've heard is that the DVD will not be released until "sometime" in 2001.
I just hope that, after making us wait that long, we get something close to the quality of the Vertigo and Psycho (original, not remake) DVDs. Robo |

Speaking of Alfred Hitchcock on DVD:
Anyone know if the following DVD's from "HGV Video Productions Inc." are worth owning (I'm talking about transfer quality and such, not the movies itself, of course): Rebecca Spellbound Notorious The Paradine Case Thanx! ------------------ Unca Dom, DDS-088 dvdfile.com administrator dominikpfleghaar@netscape.net |

Those links show the Anchor Bay versions.
I own Spellbound, Rebecca, and Notorious. All three are worth getting. Rebecca, in particular, is the best I've ever seen it look. I've never seen The Paradine Case, and I've heard it's one of Hitch's lesser films, so I haven't been in a big hurry to pick up the DVD, but I definitely recommend the other three.
