Just finished watching TWIN PEAKS......(SPOILERS)

Ok, i just finished watching the last episode of TWIN PEAKS (ive seen them all now), but it wasnt a very good ending to the series! It was a great episode, but it felt like a season ender (cliffhanger), not a series ender (wrap-up). What happened? I was only 5 in 1991, so I didnt know anything about it........Was the show cancelled (i thought it was successful!)? It just seems like they were going to do more episodes but then didnt.......

If you're watching the DVD set, you only saw the first season. There's one more season to go (which is not out of DVD yet).

Much to my dismay...

Yep, there's a season 2 and then there's always Fire Walk With Me, but that pretty much reveals all and takes place a week before where season 1 starts. The show ended after just 2 seasons, it was successful but in more of a My So-Called Life way (cult, loyal fanbase) instead of a Friends way.

No, I watched BOTH seasons (all 29 episodes) and it ends with Cooper turning into Bob......which is a HUGE cliffhanger. My guess is that it was successful for a while, then got "too weird" and was not renewed for a third season. Which sucks.

They sold the series wrong. It was supposed to be like The Fugitive or something where they had this quest they were trying to solve but would never get to the end and along the way they would investigate new mysteries and so on. Well, they sold the series like it was a mini-series and when they didn't solve who killed Laura Palmer at the end of the first 7, then it pissed people off. Then the second season started to get really weird and it turned people off even more. Personally, I loved it. I had to deal with pre-emptions and delays (even to getting friends-of-friends in other States to tape it for us!) but I always felt it was worth it.

They were forced to solve the Laura story, which they did, and that should have been the end, really. A second 7-8 episode arc would have allowed them to stay focused and had a masterful series.

Truth is, their ambition was too high for what they had developed. They had hoped to carry these characters through other stories but they couldn't come up wth other stories. Was there anything more boring than the James & Donna storyline? Or as lame as the Civil War storyline? Or as pointless as the Chessmatch? It's almost like they got bored with their own characters and just gave them busy work.

Eventually, they came to their senses and brought back the Laura storyline. That was very compelling as we learned the true nature of BOB.

When they realized the series would not be renewed, they decided to create the ultimate cliffhanger. Everyone was put into some sort of jeopardy. I look at it as an ironic ending. The premise of the show was cliffhanger, so it was fitting to leave it with one.

The movie addresses it, but doesn't end it, which is fine. I liked the movie. It changed the way we viewed the Laura Palmer/BOB storyline. Instead of it being a dream demon, we find out the truest nature of what BOB and his avatar did to Laura.

I absolutely love the last episode, it's so refreshing after how terrible some of the other season 2 episodes are. It was pretty creepy and had the same feeling and mood as Fire Walk With Me. It was also very Lynch, meaning it probably won't make sense the first time you see it. Overall, I think it was a perfect ending to the series. I just wish Twin Peaks had been cancelled earlier so it wouldn't have those really, really bad episodes tarnishing it's reputation (sometimes less is more; EVERY episode of My-So Called Life is PERFECT and there are only 19)
