OOP James Bond DVDs
Does anyone know if the rest of the James Bond DVDs (From Russia with Love, OHMSS, etc) will be re-released? I missed them the 1st time around (I picked up the ones they re-released last year) and I was expected more to come out with Die Another Day, but apparently No such luck.

I certainly hope so as they're great discs... I look at them on my shelf... that I can watch at any time... lined up nicely in order... I look at them and I think "damn it must suck not owning these... those poor people"...
Best of luck. |

Jeeze!
You meant they didn't re-release all of them for Die Another Day's cinema outing? They did over here, but at a cost if you were looking for all of them.
They came in two varieties: Buy them individually, with 99% of places offering them "buy one get one free" and as a huge box-set, with an exclusive box to keep them in. Problem was that apparently there was a copyright problem that prevented The Living Daylights from being issued as a sepatate disc. So the only way to pick it up was by getting the whole lot in the box-set. Who knows if it is true, but it sounds a little funny. Maybe it IS a genuine copyright problem, maybe the are a little embarrassed to show Bond riding with the Talliban in all but name, or maybe that it is one of the weakest of the Bond movies and they found a way of keeping it out of the way. Last year, I met a relative of Dalton's, and I was told that dear old Tim is absolutely mortified by his stint as Bond, and that the legal problems that killed the franchise in the 90's was a blessing to him. It is a shame that MGM don't re-issue all of them as 2 disc sets, as we are sure that the picture suffers as a result. And maybe looking for new prints of the older ones would be cool, as having a look at them again, some look as rough as arseholes. "But they are old movies", you cry. Crap. Here in the UK, ITV (home of the Bond movies right from the beginning) have prints of Dr No and a load of the other ones that are so gorgeous that you could shed a tear. Dr No looks like it was struck from the some lovingly restored negatives, and is a sight to behold.

The last news I've heard on the subject is that the JB movies were going to be re-released in box sets on a three year basis. Last October was year one. I expect the next box set to be released this October and the final one in 2004.
I also missed them the first time around. I picked up the first box this time and I know it's a long wait for the next ones.

OOP Previews
I, too, was hoping for a reissue of another box set with the release of Die another Day. I saw something interesting though while watching the DieADay dvd and that was a preview for three Bond DVD box sets. But they didn't include a release date for the future ones. It was as if they were already out.

I am about to start collecting all the Bond films.
Which are the best ones to get? Have there been two separate releases of every film (except DAD, obviously)?? I have seen the boxed set, but I would rather not wait for the other 2 sets. However, I do want the BEST releases of each film and I wouldn't mind if the spines all matched either! ![]() Hpwever, my main objective is to own all the films in the best versions possible. My dad and I love them and I want to have them to watch especially for when he comes over... (and I love them too!) Thanks for any info, Zack

The reissues from last October (and the forthcoming boxes) are identical to the original releases. Thus, you don't have to worry about added or missing features - it's the same thing.

Cool. Thanks for the recommendations.
I will definitely be picking them all up in the near future. I have heard some are OOP and that some have framing issues/lost dialogue? I just read that at another forum. Which are they and would you all consider them such an issue that it makes them not worth hunting down, but rather just waiting 1-2 years for the other boxed sets to be released? I just want to get all the films, but not if the issues with some discs are really major issues. Thanks again for your input. Zack

Just get Die Another Day and the currently available box now. If you wait, for the other ones to be reissued in boxes you'll probably end up paying less for them than it would cost you to track all of the OOP ones down on ebay.

Also the previously released boxsets and the new sets have different selections of films in each box. So you can't mix and match the 2 releases of the boxsets.
Never Say Never Again (yeah, I know, not official Bond) had a scene missing on its release which was corrected by a recall. Other films replace the original subtitles (locations, etc) with player-generated titles that look shoddy, that may be what you read about...?
