What's a great idea for a film festival for 4th of July - DVDfile.com forum for DVD, Blu-Ray, and HD-DVD

On memorial day, I had "Retelling the Bard" film festival at my house, and we all seemed to love it. I showed Ran, Forbidden Planet, West Side Story, Ten Things I Hate About You, and Throne of Blood. Can anyone come up with a good idea for another film festival. It gives me a great excuse to buy new great DVDs for my collection and to have friends see movies they wouldn't normally see. Some of them didn't know Ran and saw it for the first time. All of us never saw Throne of Blood. And although we've all seen "Westside Story" we were humming tunes all weekend long. Although my next one will be on July 4th Weekend, it doesn't necessarily have to be for that weekend. I want to do "The Horror of Showbiz" film festival when ever they freakin' release The Valley of the Dolls and have movies like Showgirls and All that Jazz, Adaptation and Barton Fink. I was thinking of movies with American in the title but that's too obvious and I was thinking about movies with Red, White and Blue but thought it would be too weird to have the 3 Colors for the 4th. A french movie with the 3 colors backwards? Although those movies are brillant! Who has other great ideas for festivals?

I'm thinking of a Roland & Emmerich double feature maybe?
Independece Day and The Patriot. While The Patriot may not be great, it definitely fits the bill of July 4th.

I can't think of a good unifying theme, but maybe highlight early American immigrants or something. They're what create this great melting pot after all, right?

Watch Avalon, Godfather 2(hehe), An American Tail, etc...

My mind is drawing a blank here, but there are tons of movies involving immigrants.

Oh, and don't forget Coming to America!

It being the middle of summer you could go a couple of ways.

1. If it is hot where you are go with a Chilled theme and show movies that take place predominately in snowy climates.

2. You could show Beach movies.

3. You could do the Summer blockbusters thing.

Just a few off of the top of my head.

Grave of the Fireflies - can't beat a movie on July 4th that shows Americans in a bad light

The Isle or Audition - guaranteed to gross out at least one audience member

Drunken Master II American version - Show how shitty Americans can be to films!

And to honor, patriotically, the United States' great film industry...

Actually, that's a good idea. It comes out on the 1st.

Independence Day or The Patriot would be good too.

But I'll be celebrating another, equally important event that day...my car will be paid off! Woohoo!

I would go with Gangs Of New York, Gettysburg is always a good one though it's a tad bit long, The Patriot, Born On The Forth Of July to name a few...
