Um, I'm sorry, but that rant was almost indecipherable. Care to clarify it?

I picked up the DVD today, and can definitely see where Monster's going with his rant. The DVD is encased in a metal sleeve, and I think people are going to have a very difficult time removing the case. I'll find out later this evening.

I just picked it up, and I'm not looking forward to the task of separating the case from the metal sleeve.. all I can say is that once I get that sucker outta there, I ain't never puttin' it back in!

I just got it myself and I have to agree that the metal casing is too tight around the snapcase. Its a real pain to get the snapcase in and out. Someone dropped the ball big time on the specs for the production line.

From what the tin sleeve looks like and how tight they fit around the cases, it wouldn't surprise me that the way they got the cases into the sleeves at the factory was to start with the sleeves flat, and fold them around the cases..
... so that's how they get the caramel in the Caramilk bar.. ![]()

![]() Just got my T2 Extreme Edition DVD... I wish I had seen this post before I attempted to open it! In retrospect, what I would have done is take some plyers or something and break the metal box open. I know it sounds bad, but then you have a slightly loose metal box that you can easily slide the dvd case in and out of. Maybe you could even reattach the box together afterwards, a little LOOSER than the manufacturer made it... Here's what my dvd case looks like after taking it out, putting it back in, and taking it out one more time: ![]() ![]() Arrrrgg I even picked out the best looking metal case with no scratches thinking I would have the *perfect* set... ![]() |

You could always just pull the insert (cover I meant) out and switch it with another movie you don't care as much about. I have done this with rental purchases before so I don't have to worry about the stickers and such...
Yes you will now have a different movie with a bad case, but at least your T2 problem wil be solved ![]()

I slid mine out very, very carefully and the spine only got one little knick in it. You can't ever really notice it.
Usually if a DVD has slip case, I store it unless it's designed like Fight Club. But if the just slides over a keep case, I never use it.

Mine's on it's way from DeepDiscountDVD. I'll see how it does or doesn't slip out. Maybe I'll just try seperating the outer case. I saw it at BB and it looks like that might work. A lot of the ones there had cases that were somewhat beat up and dented at the edges.

T2
I just picked up mine at Target for 15 bucks and I got lucky. Its a shame about the cases that tore the case underneath. I'd take that shit back if I were you. I was lucky and got one where the dvd slips out nice, and there are no nicks or dents at all. I believe that mine works because it has a slight hump in the front metal part. I believe that is there in order to allow the inner case to slide out. So if you see one with a slight hump, I think that's the one that is right, no lump = crushed and hard to get out.

I just got mine and it has a little bit of a ben to the front. It came out ok, it was tight but not too bad. There is just a little bit of maring on the top of the spine but otherwise it is ok.
Don't know if I am going to be sliding it in and out of the metal too much tho.

Wow, was just thinking about going back down to Target to pick this up and saw this thread and happened to then notice this on dvdtalk:
"Artisan has been quick to acknowledge the problem and they've set up a hotline for people to call to get replacement cases. The number to call for a replacement case is 800.650.7099. " Hopefully that helps you all who need new cases. |

Hey, thats cool. I'm sure they're closed now, but I'll try calling tommorrow. There just better not be shipping and handling...
Has anyone had experience with something like this, where a company sends out replacement discs/cases? DO they charge shipping? |

I bought mine today, and after having the metal cover tear at the plastic case, the first thing I thought after "shit!!!", was, I wonder if there will be a thread on this issue at DVDFILE.

I bought my copy today and my case is all screwy, too. The edges of my case are torn as well and there are a couple of dents in the actual tin case.
I didn't even want to buy this disk to begin with. I have the UE already and am more than happy with it, but for $14.99 I couldn't pass it up. On a plus side, the boss was out of town today so I watched T2 on my laptop in my cubicle. I still left work tired, though, as if I actually did work today. Go figure. ![]()

My case is intact without a nick. My only bitch (besides the embossing not being lined up correctly on just about all of the copies I saw) so far is that the paint on the metal slipcase scratches off fairly easy. I've already got a few noticeable scratches and I've been handling this thing with kid gloves. Let's see if Artisan replaces that!

OK, in light of recent news I did two things.
One, I left the tin case in the srink wrap and opened only one end. Now the easy to scratch tin case will stay in good shape. Two, I slide my keep case out super careful. So mine came out without a scratch. Though it was a pain in the butt to get it out. Also, when it goes on the shelf, I will just put them next to each other. No need forcing the keep case in and out of the tin case. -Flash

Mines got fucked up from the spine (plastic tore some). Once I get the replacement from Artisan I'm NEVER sticking the case back in the tin. I'm just going to display it seperatly next to my Evil Dead Tin. The thing that pisses me off though is that it's such a simple thing to fix (I know cause I used to work in a machine shop, and making a case similar to this is pretty standard). Damn why didn't they test the damn things before mass producing them. Widening the opening just slightly, and smoothing out the sharp edges would have fixed all the problems. Damn Artisan.
Still I have to admit the tin art design kicks ass. |
