Is the new T2 worth picking up?

I was just wondering if the new T2 is worth picking up? I bought the ultimate edition, a few years back, I have been very happy with it, but I am undecided on the this new edition. Is it worth the double dip?

Every single review has said that the transfer is a definite improvement over the Ultimate Edition.. if you're into A/V quality, then I'd say it's worth double-dipping for the definitive transfer.. in terms of extras, it doesn't hold a candle to the Ultimate Edition, so if you're holding out for the extras, best to stick with the Ultimate Edition..

But the two main reasons to pick the EE would be:
1) The improved transfer (the best to date)
2) The James Cameron commentary

Just watch out for the packaging though.. it's a bitch to get the damn thing outta the metal sleeve

Just picked it up, I didn't like the cover when I saw it online but in person it looks much better! Although near impossible to get the keepcase out of the metal sleeve I would pick it up!

Thanks for the advice, I went for Black Hawk Down and Die Another Day when I went to Best Buy, but I will probably pick it up after my next paycheck. Just having a James Cameron commentary seems like a good enough reason for me.

Does anyone know if the metal packaging on this one is only for a limited time only (like it was on the Ultimate Edition)?

I wasn't aware of that it said that. Looks like I'm off to Target then. I planned to get this eitherway, just not right away due to some other stuff I want to buy. But I don't want to risk having the Metal case be OOP by them, besides I don't think I'm going to find it lower than the sale price going on now.

Exactly why I bought it last night. The extras are actually pretty low in size, but the new doc looks good, and a Cameron commentary sounds to interesting to pass up. Plus, the transfer is FUCKING AMAZING. Superbit my ass... check this sucker out.

PS Case does rip up the inner case, but if you keep the metal it's no big deal. What really pisses me off is that Die Another Day doesn't match the other Bond films under the cardboard, but that's for another thread...

Ya see, now I'm torn.

I wasn't going to get this one beause I have just and ok TV and just a plaine old stereo as my home theater system. However, I plan to buy a decent sound system in the next year and a new TV in the next two years (when the super-duper-ultra-mega-kick-ass edition is out).

However, I KNOW I will be kicking myself when I DO end up buying the NON-METAL tin somewhere down the line... and for more than $14.99 (which is the cheapest I've seen).

Oh yeah, did I mention that I am extremely broke right now?

You guys are killing me. Best Buy has a 2 for $25 deal if you buy T2:EE and Total Recall SE together. I hate the round tin Total Recall that I have so it is very tempting to upgrade both. But T2: UE is such a great release already.

Is the Cameron commentary actually GOOD, or is everyone getting it just because it's there?

I am the proud owner of the T2:UE and I plan on sticking with that one until I can afford a super big and shiny plasma tv! I seriously doubt the hi-def transfer will make my jaw drop on my 27in tv!!! Besides, if the darn thing goes OOP (again) I'll probably be loaded enough to afford to get it anyway! (hey, if I'm dreaming I might as well dream big!)

The new transfer makes my jaw drop and you don't even WANT to know the size of TV I got now (hard times man... all I'm gonna say...)

But what I really wanna know is how does the 5.1 sound on this compare to the DTS track on the previous disc?
Thats the key factor as to whether or not I get this disc

I watched part of the High Def last night and I think that it requires you to play it on a computer DVD drive using the Windows Media 9 codecs.

It ran ok and wasn't supremely impressed with the transfer. It did stutter quite a bit at first and then only occasionally after that. It says that the Recommended system requirements in a 3 GHz processor with 512 MB of RAM. My 1.8 GHz could barely handle it smoothly.

I just bought my ultimate edition a few months back so i missed ouit on the meatl cover so i just might fork up the dough to have the EE with its metal cover.
The comentay and the better quality are also very tempting.

Listened to 30 minutes or so of the commentary last night and it is actually a pretty good one. You can tell Cameron is an ass though...

I can't play the high def 2nd disc movie but the transfer on disc one is absolutely stunning.

Anyone who tells you that they can tell a difference in the video quality from the UE is either full of shit and just trying to "sound like they know what they are talking about" or they were paid by Artisan to say so. Especially so if they are using anything less than a $10,000 TV.

This is the kind of microscopic "improvements" mentioned on DVDFile:

"This is a wonderful transfer compressed with great care; this is made immediately apparent by the appearance of the white opening titles. In every previous release, the white was brighter at the transition between the interior of the letters and the background. Here, the letters are uniformly white."

Uniformly white letters in the opening titles. Yeah that's what T2 has been missing. Big fucking whoop. Like anyonenoticed that in the first place. And that guy's using a fairly expensive projector to get even those results. You think anyone with standard human eyeballs is gonna notice that on their 27" set? Highly doubtful.

I ordered it from Netflix just to listen to the commentry. The other extras don't hold a candle to the UE.

T2 EE extras

Stupid question and awfully late. Anyone know where I can find a list of the specs or have one available for this super-mega-gold-shit-primo-edition of Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Thanks.

I didn't have the previous edition, so it wasn't a dilema for me buying this new version. I also didn't have the Terminator 1 SE DVD, which I'm now getting by way of Dances with Wolves's free MGM DVD offer. So I'm lucky in both regards.

When there's the close-up of the grill of the semi-truck, you WILL see a differance, even on a 17" Apex...

I think it's worth it. For $14.99 (at Target) you just can't say no. Improved A/V and Mr. Cameron doing a feature-length commentary.

I got it mainly for the commentary (which is very good) lthough the new transfer is quite noticably better. Can't get the hi-def version to run though, keep getting a 'licence problem, try again later' message.

A little help please?

For those that have this DVD.....HD? To the best of my knowledge a DVD player is only capable of 480p (assuming you have a Prog. Scan Player). How can you get a 1080p image through a 480p player?

The HD version is playable only on high-end PC's with Windows Media Player 9. There's also a standard DVD version as well.
