Which "blind buy" do you regret the most?

Just curious. I dont blind buy, so Im just wonder for those who do, which film do you regret the most. Also, out of all of your blind buys, is there any that you have just watched once and ditched on your shelve?

I was going to say yes but it occurred to me that I’ve never purchased a movie that I haven’t seen. I have a few that I regret simply because I don't like them now. But I never bought one blind.

I guess I’d be pissed if I dropped 20 or 30 on something that I might hate.

I try to see most movies I'm interested in during their initial theatre run, but it can become impossible to see them all, especially since most of the films I'm intrigued by are not playing in multiplexes.
That said, I've only regretted 1 "blind" purchase. Gladiator. It's shitty 10 times over. I really should trade it in already. The only reason I've held on this long is that its got a decent documentary on gladiators...

I usually buy blind . . . two in recent memory come to mind that, although decent movies, I was disappointed I didn't rent them first, because I would have chose not to purchase them . . .

Once Upon a Time in America - Good acting, but the story was a bit long and drawn out.

Gangs of New York - Breathtaking sets, but I miss what all the hype was about.

Just my humble two cents.

I gave Tears of the Sun a shot, and it was so boring I could hardly stay awake. It's getting traded in very shortly...

Out of 914 DVDs and I would say a good 90% of that was blind boys, Old School (Unrated) is the only moive I have ever regreted buying. Terrible movie, and that's bad coming from me.

Yeah, I have a few...

Snatch (I liked Lock, Stock..., but this just seemed like a re-tread of what Ritchie has done before)
The Patriot (Ugh... don't get me started)
House on Haunted Hill (Hilariously bad)
Pearl Harbor (for obvious reasons)

There are some more I can't remember, but most my blind buys turn out well. I blame myself for the above, I should have known what I was getting into.

A couple i can think of....

Last House on the Left
I Spit on Your Grave

I really enjoy horror movies, but these were just repulsive, nothing scary about them....

and K-19 Widowmaker....the absolute boringest movie i ever saw i think. Luckily i got it for only $10 new

Needless to say...all 3 have been sold or trader

I don't recall ever regreting a blind buy. The best blind purchase ever was either Punch-Drunk Love or Snatch. I don't buy movies blind that much any more, at one time I did. But not any more and when I'm buying blind I make sure that the movie had good reviews & I really, really wanted to see it.

Original Sin - Unrated Edition - Bought it in hopes of a few good Angelina Jolie sex scenes, but even those sucked. Horrible movie and if I could get a decent trade in amount for it I would, for all of the ones listed here.

Reckless + Wild - Hopes of another hot chick doing good sex scenes, but it didn't even come close. Horrible horrible movie on every level.

Windtalkers - What a piece of crap flick. Even the action sequences sucked ass. They were just a random group of explosions, no sense of the battlefield or even what anyone's objectives were. The whole idea behind it was great, to do a story on the WWII codetalkers which were an almost forgotten part of our history, but they focused on the idiot that guarded one.

A lot of my collection are blind buys as well. But almost every time, I at least somewhat liked the movie. The most terrible blind buy I ever remember buying was Hyper Doll, a lame Sailor Moon rip-off that only included 2 episodes on 1 DVD. I shouldn't have bought it on Amazon just because it was cheap...

One of my early DVDs was 187 because I saw it for $6 or so in WalMart and thought I would try it. After I came home and saw what a horrible rating it got on RottenTomatoes I lost intrest in seeing it. I owned it for over a year and never watched it. I just recently sold it on eBay (still never saw it!) But I didn't regret buying it really, it was like the a running joke that I would never watch it.

I think the one I regret the most would be The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. I thought the trailer looked ok and the idea of comics mixed in with live action seemed cool. Wow, I was wrong

About two-thirds of my 380 DVDs have been (well-researched) blind buys. Overall, my batting average has been great. The three I regret the most:

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas (Gilliam/1998/Criterion). I love Gilliam & Depp, but thought this film was an indulgent disaster. I never cracked a smile. Depp's worst performance & a serious misstep by the brilliant Terry Gilliam. Maybe I needed to be as f*cked up as the Hunter S. Thompson character to "get" the humor. Sold it a week later (only CC I've ever sold).

Suspiria (Argento/1976/Anchor Bay). I was excited to see this film after all that I'd read about it. I found it to be b-o-r-i-n-g: not scary or suspenseful. Bad pacing, production values, acting. Maybe my expectations were too high. Ah well. Sold it.

Breaking the Waves (Lars von Trier/1995/Artisan). My first experience with von Trier. For me, it's a very irritating, preposterours film. I don't like the way Lars stacks the deck against his long-suffering heroines for dramatic effect. I had a similar reaction to Dancer in the Dark. I'll watch it again one of these days, but doubt it'll ever win me over.

I'm sure each of these three films appears on multiple Top 10 lists around here. Sorry--just didn't work for me.

I regret all zero of my blind buys. I would have regretted buying all the movies I've rented the last few years, watched once, and then never wanted to watch again.

Shadow of the Vampire. After seeing this trailer for what seemed like over a year before nearly EVERY movie I ever went to, I managed to not see it in the theater and just buy it when it came out on DVD. What a bad move.
The movie wasn't that bad, but really didn't do much for me at all, though the performances were amazing. I dunno, just disappointed me too damn much.

And even though I did see this movie in the theaters, I'll put Gladiator here, 'cause I feel like I must've been blind, deaf, and dumb to actually purchase this. It was back when I stupidly bought shit just to buy it. God, I hate nearly everything about that movie.

As I said last time this topic was started...
Luc Besson's The Messenger was the most disappointing piece of crap I've ever had the misfortune of blind buying. I didn't even bother to resell it. I just threw it away with the rest of the trash.

I enjoyed Gladiator. I don't think it was Best Picture that year, but its a fun movie and I like the style/cinematography.

I've had great luck with my blind buys! DONNIE DARKO, COWBOY BEBOP the movie and LITTLE VOICE just to name a few. I try not to do it too much.

I'm actually a bit curious about what you mean when you say "blind buy" -- are you referring to a film not previously seen but purchased anyway? Or are you referring to a DVD not previously seen, but purchased anyway?

I regret having purchased my copy of Peter Weir's lovely 1993 film "Fearless", not because I dislike the film, but because I found out only too late that the disc was a full-frame version of the film and not widescreen (I had neglected to notice that on the package before I plopped down my $8 for the disc).

I rarely purchase a film I'm unsure of before at least renting it or seeing it on TV, unless it's a particularly historic or hard-to-find title.

yeah, a "blind buy" is when you've not seen the film but you buy it anyway.

I also blind buy certain films, just by who is in them. Like anything with Audrey Hepburn, Audrey tautou or Ewan Mcgregor...I just buy!

P.S. Ewan has made some sh*t

Um, no, I didn't try to return it; I don't believe there IS a widescreen edition of that film on DVD, unfortunately (if you know otherwise, please let me know!). As it was, it was only an $8 purchase. I'm annoyed but not broken-hearted. I hadn't checked, so it's my own fault. If the film ever becomes available in widescreen I'll get it.

Bandits - Hey, I was on a Billy Bob Thornton kick. With he, Bruce Willis, and Cate Blanchett, there's no way this movie should've sucked as bad as it did.

Series 7: The Contenders Great idea, piss-poor execution, cop-out ending. The writer-director should've sold the rights to HBO and left it at that.

Madacy's release of Metropolis: loved the movie in film class but this DVD was absolutely unwatchable. It's a small miracle i managed to unload it.
