Clownhouse DVD canned?!

According to someone at Horrordvds.com message board MGM has said they will not be releasing Clownhouse on DVD this August. This makes me really upset, if you want it on DVD please e-mail them and let them know this makes you mad: 4you@mgm.com

I can only imagine that there must have been more protests that caused this to happen.

Can't somebody just let one of the man's movies come out without hassels?

Unless they pulled it because the director wants to record a commentary track for it... wouldn't that be daring?

"Oh this is my favorite scene in the film, we have all of the kids together in this shot, in their underwear.... And Nathan and Sam.... Can we stop tape please?" (Rumbling and fidgeting)

"Ok, just needed a little break there... Where was I? Oh yeah, here's the scene where the kids..."(sound of a tape beeping, and then there is background noise with the crew)

"Take 22!"

"Ok, we'll try this again. Good thing this isn't a video commentary."

I don't mean to insult anyone, but I don't know how anybody could sit through Clownhouse or Powder if they know anything about the director. Those two films have some very disturbing imagery, when you realize it's all from the pov of a child molester.

EVERYONE in the entertainment industry is a child mollestor, we just don't know about it. I don't see why it's THAT disturbing

[waits for backlash at hyperbolic comment]

Dude, I so know what you're talking about. I was raped by Dick Clark, as was my father, and his father before him, and his father before him. We've been getting raped by Dick Clark for ten generations now. It's like a tradition, or a family heirloom of sorts.

random thought: whenever anyone mentions "Jeepers Creepers" or "Powder" I love telling them that the director is a convicted pedophile and taped himself having oral sex with one of his little boy actors. It's just funny seeing their reactions. It makes it even better when you see pictures of the guy, he's PERFECT child mollesting material.

I hope this isn't true. I was planning on picking this up. But at least there's still alot of other great titles MGM is releasing in this batch.

SkottDMD: did the poster give his source for this information?

I think it was from a sell through sheet or something like that.

Kiddie Fiddler...

When they guy tried to get his life sorted out after going to prison, he wiped the slate clean, did his time and set about making the movie Powder. It was a rather hyped movie, built up to be a sort of ET for the 90's, and advance word was good.

Then the movie was played at a crucial press screening. Unbeknownst to the director, the kid from Clownhouse he had molested appeared at the press screening and told everyone not to watch the movie, as it was made by a kiddie-fiddler and would be seen as endorsing child molestation.

And the release of Powder was just about wiped off the map before it even saw the inside of a cinema.

I know that I am going to get flammed for this, but here goes.

I think that what Victor did was without a doubt sick and twisted, but and thats a HEAVY BUT, he paid for his mistake that happened almost 20 years ago, he is trying to get on with his life, and every damn time a movie he makes comes out he is dogged about his past. What profession should he take up? No matter what he does people are going to bitch and moan. He is a talanted director. Let him do what he can to contribute to society.

And one more thing, I am pissed by the suggestion that is made in many forums that anyone that enjoys his movies is as sick as he is. You people need to drop the witch hunt.

I love clownhouse, powder and jeepers creepers because they are great movies.

and thats my three cents.

I own the VHS of this and really hope the dvd comes out soon.

This DVD would have never been delayed if it was done by Roman Polanski...

It is one issue to talk about the director's post jail work. That is a whole other thread.

But, this film is different. The director was molesting the lead actor and filming it during production. How anyone can sit through this film knowing that, I can not understand.

MGM is making a good move by pulling the DVD. The backlash they would receive after the film is released and even one network or publication runs a story isn't worth it.

We've got one thread discussing Roman Polanski, Victor Salva, and private lives vs. filmmaking in Soapbox.
The Pianist and Roman Polanski

Please use IT to discuss filmmakers' private lives (and keep it civil) and not this thread. Further discussions off-topic will render this topic closed. Thanks for your understanding.

I had this pre-ordered through DVDEmpire and did get an e-mail notifying that it was changed to TBA.

This does sort of upset me. I had read good things about the film. It seems as though it's a bit amateurish, but has some good things in it.

I wish it would have just slipped by MGM's "bad publicity detectors", so we could have gotten copies of it.

Then they could pull it.

Yes, I got a legit copy for $10. Its okay, and somewhat stylish, but there are obvious pedophilic tones going throughout the film which is very distracting. The climax is well done, and there is definite creepiness to the whole film.

I have to ask though, do you NEED to see a kid piss himself and every boy in the film in his underwear?

On a side note, Powder is completely awful. I watched that before and after the knowledge about Salva's crime. Seeing it after, it is obvious that Salva had made it extremely semi-autobigraphical. Him being "too pure" for this world and what not.

The big difference though between Polanski and Salva though, is that Polanski is MUCH more talented.

I agree. I really enjoyed Jeepers Creepers and Powder, that was before I know about the director. After I found out all this stuf my only reaction was "so?" I mean, he was caught and punished as he should have been. It has nothing to do with my enjoying Jeepers Creepers today.

Newbury Comics here in Boston has it for ten bucks new. And two copies. And they've been there for at least as long as I've been going there.
