Bad films with excellent DVDs

Mediocre films which don't deserve to have discs as good as they do:

Pearl Harbor: Vista Series (obviously)
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Armageddon: Criterion
Black Hawk Down: Three Disc

and this new Enough: Special Edition business sounds pretty bad

I can't think of any more at the moment, but I'm sure there are about a billion other possibilities.

Can anyone say Windtalkers?

I'll also have to agree on Black Hawk Down. I also thought it was mediocre. It wasn't bad, but I think Saving Private Ryan should be the movie getting the 3-disc treatment.

My icon is Laura Palmer's upside-down bloody mouth from "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me". LOTS of people can't figure out what it is until I tell them.

Let's see, going through my list of movies...I may like a majority of these, but most consider them "BAD" movies....

Gladiator
Superbits...although, i like most of the "BAD" movies
Jason X
Eight Legged Freaks
Monkeybone was a decent DVD
Tears of the Sun (boring movie, good transfer and sound)
Toxic Avenger (lots of extras on most Troma movies)
Friday After Next (Infinifilm, but the movie blew goat nuts)

and those are only the DVD's i own

FINAL DESTINATION - CRAP. CRAP. But a good dvd release. Thank goodness for the whole cast doing commentary. PLEASE let the cast tell me how they approached their character when they were chopped up.

Good sound though...

And ANY Disney sequel. They all seem to have DTS.....Hunchback, Atlantis, etc.etc.

Won't just about any good quality DVD fit in this category for just about anyone?

I mean Fight Club would certainly be "bad" to some along with Memento.

I wonder if there is any movie out there that EVERYONE likes...

Peace...

Did you really think "Black Hawk Down" and "Tears of the Sun" were THAT bad? Cause I sure didn't! OK, Private Ryan is a better movie than both, but still. Gee, I even noticed somebody mentioning "Lord of the Rings", C'mon. I agree with most of the others though.

I'm sorry. I just didn't think it was very good. One of the reasons I think the DVD is great is because it has subtitles and I can understand what they're saying, unlike during my theatrical experience. I mean, I really tried to get into it. I got the extended edition for Christmas, I devoured the book, I asked a lot of questions on forums and from people who were big fans. But after doing all of that, I kind of wish I hadn't.

Now, On-Topic:
Armageddon (Criterion)
Pearl Harbor Vista Series (I did not think it was a horrible movie, but it wasnt much of a good movie though)

LOL, I didn't mean the whole thing, just in several scenes. My hearing and my English are fine. And then there were the times when they'd throw in some LOTR-specific word that a non-reader of the book would have no idea what it meant like "Elendil" or "Udun" or "Uruk-hai" or "Eorlingas." (I know that last one is in Two Towers, but WTF?

I would have to say Supergirl LE. Now, I actually like Supergirl (Helen Slater helps a lot), but I know most people didn't. It just annoys me that a reviled movie like Supergirl can get such a nice set while a classic like the Breakfast Club can't!

I thought Final Destination was a great black comedy... I haven't seen the DVD, though.

Great thread.

From my own collection I vote for Tron. From the general DVD shelves I vote for anything by Michael Bay.

Oh, and to back up what some of the others have already posted:

Horrible film that deserves a top notch DVD: Showgirls. That this shlock masterpiece doesn't have a deluxe special edition, hell, a Criterion for that matter, is a gross miscarriage of justice.

I'd have to second Lord of the Rings, I mean, you know it's bad when characters die or get hurt and I'm laughing at them and the movie. I did give the movie a chance, but I digress...

Others...

Mission Impossible 2
Austin Powers series

I'm sure there's more, mostly new releases

If only Anchor Bay obtained the rights to the Hughes movies, we'd have SEs that would blow "Supergirl" away. Silly, silly Universal.

Clearly someone didn't pay one whit of attention to the film that he/she supposedly watched.

And I disagree that 'Saving Private Ryan' is superior to 'Black Hawk Down'. Come on, the second act of 'Ryan' plays out like a slasher flick! And the Normandy thing had nothing to do with the rest of the movie! And if I'm Tom Hanks, I'm dragging Private Ryan back to base whether he likes it or not.

But I digress. I'm glad they both have swell DVDs.

And ccounsil is a bloody madman.

What does everyone have against Armageddon and
Black Hawk Down? I rather enjoyed both films...
