Yeah, I saw this up for pre-order on dvdempire, and am just as confused as you.

Maybe it's their answer to those other collector's sets, where it'll just be the movie, with a cd soundtrack and a poster or postcards or something...

I can't imagine anything else being put on that DVD.

I am just as intrigued as everyone else.

As wahlers says - what else could they put on this?? That last set was nice enough and even felt a little padded to me anyway, though the song in Lego was just hilarious.

I'm hoping this is just the CD and the frame stills-type thing in a box, or else I'll be really peeved. It looks big enough to be that kind of "book" packaging, like the 2001 set they had out and the Pulp Fiction one.

Nice cover though...

Guess its my bad day, but the studios keep shelling out "double dips" for me just after I paid an extravagant amount of money for the original disc! (I paid 34.99 Canadian for Holy grail last week).

Was the previous version anamorphic? If not, maybe this is it. Otherwise, I'm as baffled and curious as you.

As random as that Lego piece was, I too thought it was hillarious.

Seriously though, is anyone actually considering dumping their 2-disk Holy Grail for this? I'm perfectly happy with my Special Edition. After all, I had no idea what to do with all those coconut shells lying around my kitchen until I watched the informative "How To Use Your Coconuts" feature on the disk.

Speaking of Monty Python, I've been thinking of getting "Life of Brian" and "Time Bandits" for a while now.

Here's my dilemma:
Should I shell out $28 each for the Criterion versions or just get the original 1-disc ones. Wal-Mart has both of these movies (single disc version) as a 2-pack for $16.88. Is it worth it to shell out almost $60 for the Criterion versions?

Roachie, how much do you like Monty Python? I have the Criterions and the commentaries alone were worth the price. Life Of Brian has a very good documentary as well. I spent less when I got them, but I would have shelled out well over $60 for them. Just too precious....

Actually it comes with a couple of African swallows to carry the coconuts under the dorsal feathers.

yes! yes! they could grasp it by the husk!

i just got the criterion of "time bandits" and i should warn you, it is NOT in anamorphic. some of the picture is soft at times, but otherwise okay. the soundtrack remastering was well done. i have not checked the extras yet.

It's not a question where it grips it, it's a simple matter of weight ratios!

Since African swallows are non-migratory, does that mean they aren't Region 1?

Sorry...couldn't resist. I have the Criterion Life of Brian, and I believe it is well worth the money. The aforementioned commentaries are great plus the deleted scenes, although poor quality, are hilarious.

And finally this morning, we've got some word for you on Columbia TriStar's new Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Collector's Edition. It is indeed the same 2-disc special edition that's already available. The only difference is, it now comes in a spiffy black slip case and includes a paperback copy of the screenplay and a collectible senitype film frame. We've got an e-mail into CTHE to try and find out if the film disc has been fixed to correct that missing first Swedish subtitle: "Mønti Pythøn Ik den Hølie Gräilen?" We'll let you know what we find out.

Might be the only one, but if it includes the original cut of the film (funny as the newer cut is), I'll pick it up after unloading my current copy on ebay.

Newer cut? original cut?

I have the original UK VHS and it's the same as appeared on the SE 2-disc last year.

What's the differences?

Does anyone know how much it will cost? I can only spare a couple of shrubberies for it.

Oh, I knew about the 22 seconds. Thought it was something else! This has been the cut that has always been put out on UK video, so not much difference.

I actually felt the 22 seconds extra slowed the film down beyond all recognition and should be left out though. Yes, the characters were better defined because of the added stuff, but at the serious cost of pacing. The re-done digtially enhanced CGI killer rabbit was a let down too and the rap version of the Intermission music was just awful.

Why must they mess with the classics?
