Fox 2-Discs Reissued

My prayers have been answered! Fox is reissuing all its 2-disc sets that have been OOP on October 14th! (See http://www.davisdvd.com/News/daily_news.htm for more)

Finally, I can pick up the Fight Club set, and while I'm at it maybe I'll pick up the ID4 2-disc as well.

I'll probably pick up The Sound of Music I already have the others. I wonder if it will be under the 5 Star label like it originally was or just an SE.

I'll probably go for the ID4 set.

Glad I didn't spend a load of time and money trying to find the original one on eBay!

Bless all those eBayers who have tried to rip people off with the recent OOP editions...

I'm really happy that Fox has finally gotten a CLUE, for God's Sake!
I'll probably get all of them except for The Sound of Music (got it on VHS) and The Abyss (gotta be 16x9)
God Bless Fox!! God Bless Fox!! You've finally listened! And it better be no limited time only crap!!

I guess they experimented with releasing single disc editions and found sales were off?

Stuff like this doesn't sit very well with me. They never should have discontinued the first set of 2-disc editions in the first place.

Oh well....

Peace...

I already have the original 2-disc releases for Abyss, Cast Away, Independence Day, and Planet of the Apes. So I might upgrade my 1-disc edition of Fight Club, but that's about it. :p

Are you refering to the dvd or the movie?

Does this mean that they will still discontinue the 2 disc "Moulin Rouge"? I've been meaning to buy it but it's not really a priority, if they're going to continue making it then I'll just wait.

Which titles are you talking about? The original releases of Fight Club and Independence Day were both 16x9 enhanced.

Peace...

I'm wondering if the artwork and packaging will remain the same, or will they be different, like Universal has done on some of its re-releases? Perhaps the digipaks for Fight Club and Moulin Rouge might become regular double-Amaray or -Alpha cases.

The Abyss is rather infamously not 16x9 enhanced. It says it is on the package, but I'm pretty sure that's a mistake. Although, I haven't watched the movie since we got our Wega, so I haven't seen it for myself.

That would be cool if they enhanced it for this release, but I wouldn't put money on it.

What, no re-release of the two-disc Patton? Oh well, I still have mine.

I am glad that I saw the value in selling my two-disc Fight Club for $49. The second disc wasn't worth much to me so I saw the profit potential. I haven't replaced it yet with the one-disc version and now I can just wait until this fall and get the release I used to have for $30 less.

I am also glad that it seems like Fox learned the lesson that pulling these off the market in the first place wasn't such a good idea. I just don't like to see DVDs go out of print if the studio still has the rights to the film.

Hmm, I hope not. I love the box art for Fight Club, and it wouldn't be the same if it came in a plastic amaray case. Even though the only reason I'd need to repurchase the film is because the case on my first 2-disc set broke, I still like the design too much to wish it was changed in it's rerelease.

The compression on the Sound of Music DVD is poorly done with very intrusive edge enhancement. I usually don't care too much about edge enhancement, but this has got to be one of the worst cases of it I've ever seen.

Great news! I'm really glad more of us who missed out on the original issues will get a chance to enjoy them now! (Well, most of them, that is...)

Right now, I just wanna laugh at all the suckers that shelled out all their money for an elusive OOP Fight Club, only to find out theyre re-issueing it! hehe...

I hope none of you on the 'file is victim to Fox's little move here.

All of these have been available at Costco for the past month or so already. In their original packaging. Yes, Moulin Rouge included!

No, no Patton. But there's a different thing going on with it vs. the other 2-disc sets. In fact Patton was the first 2-disc set to go to a 1-disc version, precisely because it sold so poorly and the average response Fox got was "why did I spend extra money on this 2nd disc?". I understand it was overwhelmingly bad feedback.

And probably what gave them the idea to try the move on the others. Which resulted in the exact OPPOSITE feedback: "Why are you taking away the cool second disc and charging me not very much less?" Excrement occurs.

That's interesting. I like the second disc on my Patton.

I know The Abyss isn't anamorphic but Independence Day certainly is. I would check your DVD player setup to make sure it's correct.

Peace...

I'm so glad it looks like the one-disc versions didn't work! Stupid movie studios. I'll get a few of these sets as soon as I see them in stores. C'mon October!
