Should I pick up Toy Story 1&2 2-Pack Used?
Ok, so I saw the Toy Story 2-pack on sale used the other day, for a decent discount over a new edition (if one can be found), and I'm wondering if it's worth picking up. I know all the Toy Story 1&2 releases are now OOP for 5 years, and I know the Ultimate Toy Box is _the_ release to get.. but should I even bother with the 2-disc set? Part of me wants to pick it up for collectibility's sake, but I'm not even sure it's going to be that collectible. Any opinions?

Unless you are a completist and must every edition of a particular film, I'd say pass.
The one to get really is The Ultimate Toy Box, although if you can live without these films for five years, wait for the HD-DVD versions (I best Disney put them out once more on regular DVD though - "available on DVD for the last time, until we make Hi-Def versions in a few months"). If you don't want the extras and just need the films right now, go for this used set, though I highly doubt it'll be a collectors piece. It was simply another way for Disney to market the films on disc.

I agree, pass. There's nothing particularly collectible about the 2-pack.

If you want to see the movies now, go ahead and buy the 2 pack. The transfers are exactly the same. I have the toy box (bought it when it was first released), but I only watched the features once (if at all). I'm glad to have that version, but I would have been perfectly content with the 2 disc if that was all that I could find. I'm sure that you will be pleased with the A/V quality.
If you're just looking for a potential collector's item, skip the 2 disc. I doubt that either of the sets will really end up being that valuable (available for a long time, many copies, HD will be much better).

Well, I only have the 2-Pack. And I am quite satisfied with it. Of course when it came out, I was still a new DVD owner, so I wasn't that into the "collectible" stuff. Now, it's a different story.
What's the discount? I paid $20 for my 2-pack when it was brand new. How much does the Toy Box run for these days? It's OOP so I would imagine that it's pricey.

If you are a fan oif the films, why not just pick up the Ultimate Toy Box while you still can?
Music World has it for $72.99...I saw one at Sherway Gardens this past weekend. Bay St. Video has a couple on the shelf but I didn't check the price. Every other store that still has it (a few HMVs and Starstrucks) is selling it for $89.99. $73 CAD isn't exactly a hot deal (although some had paid full retail for it, $79.99 US?) but other than used or ebay, it's probably the best you can get it for locally. |

Amazon.ca has the UTB for $70.39 CA shipped and I'm sure you can do even better elsewhere.
