It is a compilation of eight short films feature BMWs, but the best part is, they are directed by some big names . . . John Woo does one . . . Tony Scott another . . . I believe Ridley Scott produces a few as well.

Does anyone know if this disc will contain the Wong Kar Wai film from the first "season"? I remember that there were rights issues or some sort of dispute. I think that the title of the film was "the follow".

I mean what shorts are on this disc? Is it the same as the initial pressing (or something) that had one extra short and is no "rare?"

I just ordered it for 4 bucks. Site says it'll take about 2-3 weeks for delivery. Not much of a gamble even though the site really doesn't say what's on it.

It contains all 5 films from the first season (including The Follow by Wong Kar Wai), plus the 3 new ones featuring the Z4.

Films are widescreen letterboxed.

Mine came in a keepcase. The first season that I got last year, as well as the new one bundled with Roundel magazine) came in slipcases.

I assume mine is the same you'll get, but I suppose it could be different (i.e. packaged in slipcase) since I got mine free as a BMW customer when I ordered via online BMW account (as opposed to the public website).

It's definitely worth it, for the Guy Ritchie directed one starting Madonna and the M5. That's been one of my demo discs for a while.

First of all, the M5 rules. Secondly, Madonna's attitude makes it very entertaining! Everybody loves it!

I want it just for the Kar-Wai and Iñárritu shorts. I loved both of them.

Yeah, that's my favorite too, mostly because I drive a '02 530i Sport/Premium and lust after an M5.

But I also love the scene in Ronin with the bad guys in an E34 M5 getting chased going the wrong way through Paris. What an awesome car. What an awesome chase scene. Still better than Matrix Reloaded.

The first thing I thought of after seeing the car chase in Reloaded was "Ronin is still better". Frankenheimer was the directing king of car chases.

Here's a link to a review of this new DVD:
http://www.thedigitalreview.com/foru...=&threadid=134

It includes all the info found on the DVD, etc.

It's a great DVD, well worth the price of $4...I just wish the transfers were anamorphic. Darn.

I got this.

Great that on the side there's a tiny "Vol. 1" on the spine, at the bottom.

Although I would have thought last year's was number one, looks like they're starting again with this release as those shorts are on here.

Looks good that there'll be mony, anyhoo!

Unfortunately, there's been an announcement that there will be no more BMW Films shorts.

So it looks like this should actually read "Vol. 1 and only"

I just got my copies in the mail and I was pleasantly suprised. I had only previously seen The Star short, and I was getting this on a whim. All I have to say is amazing! It's pretty sad though when a 10 minute short film packs more of a punch than most feature films put out today. It also amazes me that I only had to pay for shipping, I would have gladly paid full retail price. Thumbs up to BMW! (now to start saving for that BMW...)

PS - It sucks that they are no longer going to produce any more shorts, but i'm damn glad that they made these.

i just got mine today as well. i watched a few of the shorts (Star, The Follow, and Beat the Devil). and i must say kudos to BMW for this collection.

the good:
5.1 and commentaries on the shorts

the bad:
they're non-animorphic (but i'm not complaining, it was free).

but all in all i'm very glad that they decided to put the entire collection on this DVD. and to think i almost bought them on ebay a few months back !! i'm glad i held out.

has anyone had any problems ordering this? it keeps telling me that my billing address is invalid.

Credit Card Billing Address

now, that's where I live and receive all of my bills at. Hence, it's a great billing address. but, it doesn't seem to want to work on this. *sigh* how odd.

Just ordered my copy. For $4 you can't beat that! I have all of them downloaded on my PC at home, but I'll enjoy them on my TV more.

My personal favorite was "Star," directed my Guy Ritchie. Watching Madonna get tossed around in the backseat while CLive Owen (one of my wife's favorite hotties) laughs and smiles is hysterical.

hah, true.

I got mine in the mail yesterday, and I can say I was truly blown away. Just amazing the effort that went into these things. Beat the Devil was my favorite, closely followed by Star. (One thing: Gary Oldman's skull cap was a little loose, and looked fake. that was the only thing wrong with that.) I've never heard of WKW or Inarritu, so those 2 were interesting. Hell, Powder Keg was so damn powerful, especially the end. wow.

I like the "Hulk" band-aid in the Ang Lee film. Was this short film before or after he was "Chosen" (sorry) to direct "Hulk"?

is the David Fincher listed the same "Seven" Fincher, or another? If it's the same guy, I really would have loved to see him do one of these. He doesn't have much car work in his films, so it would have been a welcome 'freshness', I suppose.

As far as I know, when Ang Lee's short was put on the web, it was right around the time that he was announced as being the director for Hulk. It sticks in my mind 'cause I remember watching that short for the first time and getting a chuckle at the band-aid and the little in joke it provided.

And yes, it's the same David Fincher.

Yep, mine is being shipped right now. Very excited!

The website is updated with 3 more movies also starring Clive Owen: Hostage, Ticker, and Beat the Devil. I expect to see those on DVD maybe next year.....

Here's a tiny cover of the DVD :

A comic book has also been created based on The Hire. Not sure if anyone knew about that.

Clemato, you'll dig the dvd. Wish it was anamorphic, but eh, still nice that they released the Follow.

One nice perk of actually owning a BMW is they gave me a few free copies on the site and at a dealership, nice.

I don't own a BMW, but last year (and the year before) I went to every beemer dealership in the area and they just handed me one after a test drive ("i think i need to watch the dvd to convince myself a BMW is the way to go"). Got a nice penny on eBay for both seasons.

and the disc rocks - i especially loved the back story to season 1.

Hi BubbleGumUk,

Did you import this disk directly from the States via an internet site or will we ever see a R2 release? If so, please could recommend the best place to find this for sale as I'm going to memorabilia in Birmingham on Saturday and may see this disk on offer at a huge profit mark up!

Much appreciated.

Cheers,

Cool! Thanks!

I know just about everyone hates Guy Ritchie, but I've liked his stuff. And Ang Lee, well, he's terrific.

Oh and as for Ebay, that's a rip off. BMW owners get completely free DVDs. Non-BMW owners get the DVD for free, but only pay $3.96 (or thereabouts) for shipping and handling). Don't get these off E-bay, that's crazy.

***

BubblegumUK: I see that you are non-USA. BMW charges $7.75 for any non-USA, non-BMW owners to get the DVD. If you paid more than that (including shipping/handling) for this DVD at E-bay you were ripped off.

(A nominal, non-refundable shipping and handling fee of $7.75 will be the only cost to you.)
Please note this version is NTSC.
All versions are NTSC, though. (Region 1, right?)

I guess I paid a little more for it than that, but they only have just started letting these go on their site, and I got mine over a year ago, so no complaints.

Hear what you're saying though, and recommend everyone to go through the BMW site to get new ones.
