It says on the cartoonresearch site that the Premiere collection is just disc 3 and 4 of the big set, but without most of the extras. The two single discs I think are taken from those internet-only cartoons that used to be on WB's website (I'm not sure about this).
Anyway, the big box is obviously the way to go. Last edited by Jaime_Weinman : 07-12-2003 at 05:06 PM. |

I'll be getting the Gold Collection & the two single disc but not the Premier since it is 28 of the 56 cartoons on the Gold (it appears).

YES!!! It's about time. I remember taking the online poll for this. Definitely going for the Gold Collection. I work for the company that produces Warner Bros. DVD's, these hopefully will be popping up soon. Yippee!!!

Wow, since WB released over 1000 cartoons and they released only about 500-600 on LD, then...
...it's gonna cost us an arm and a leg to own them all...if they release them all. ![]()

Oh, no question -- the Golden Collection is an absolute MUST BUY.
Check out the screenshot comparisons! They even window-boxed the opening credits of each title! That is absolutely GORGEOUS work. If you love Warner Bros. cartoons, you'd be insane not to pick this up. I hope the next wave has some of my ultra favorite Bugs titles (Hare Do, Rebel Rabbit, Show Biz Bugs, French Rarebit, and Ballot Box Bunny), as well as (maybe one day!) my favorite Charlie Dog toon, 1949's Often An Orphan (contains some of the most over-the-top scenery chewing I've ever seen). Why "windowbox" the opening credits, but not the actual cartoons themselves?
![]() Still, I'll be all over this set like flies on shit. ![]()

The Digital Bits has posted a list of the cartoons included in the Golden Collection here.
Looks like a good collection; my only complaint is that "What's Opera, Doc?" isn't in there. Oh, well, I'm sure there'll be other collections, but that's the first one I would have thought of if I were selecting. Still, looks like a great set; I'm all over it.

Excellent starter titles! I'm glad there's "Ballot Box Bunny" (with its "anyone for Russian Roulette?" ending, which is cut from the TV version today), "Rabbit of Seville" and even a Charlie Dog short -- "The Awful Orphan" (Not the one where he says "hark! what's that? LOOK! It's the Towers! They're falling! AHHHHHHH!!!!" -- that's 1949's "Often An Orphan", which I hope eventually is released as well.)

Update from TVShowsOnDVD.com...
WB Studies 'Golden' Sales to Decide Looney Future 8/01/2003 Word has slipped out that Warner Brothers is going to be looking VERY closely at the sales of the upcoming Looney Tunes DVDs, to determine the fate of future releases. As you probably know, on 10/28 Warner is releasing a 4-disc deluxe-treatment set called The Looney Tunes Golden Collection, but at the same time is releasing a 2-disc barebones-treatment item called The Looney Tunes Premiere Collection. The thrust of it is that the decision-makers at Warners are not convinced that either of these will sell at all, strange as that may sound. If they do pursue future sets, they are not sure whether it should be the more deluxe versions, or to go for the more mass-market approach instead. The word is that it is "vital" for The Golden Collection to sell well from legitimate front-line retailers (not used DVD shops or flea markets, for instance, but definate first-sale stores) in order for Warner to pursue the 2nd and 3rd waves with the same level of care. All future release plans are on hold, pending results of the 1st wave. If sales results show that lesser product like The Premiere Collection sells better, than that is the pattern of future releases. If neither sell, then Warner may stop investing in the restoration of these classic cartoons. Me, I'll be going for the Gold! Our thanks to Jaime Weinman for contributing to this story. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/ |

Disc 1 itself is worth the purchase price for me.

I've got mine preordered too.
Anybody want to start a poll to get an idea of what people are getting? Something along the lines maybe of: [ ] Preordered Gold Collection [ ] Preordered Premiere Collection [ ] Preordered one of the other single-disc releases [ ] Preordered more than one of the sets (including Gold Collection) [ ] Preordered more than one of the sets (not including Gold Collection) [ ] Will buy Gold Collection in the store [ ] Will buy Premiere Collection in the store [ ] Will buy one of the other single-disc releases in the store [ ] Will buy more than one of the sets (including Gold Collection) in the store [ ] Will buy more than one of the sets (not including Gold Collection) in the store [ ] Will wait and see what the reviews say [ ] Not interested [ ] Other
