Comic Book Movies

I watched Tim Burton's Batman last night and it reminded me how much I enjoyed watching this at the cinema when it was released.

What interested me was thinking about comic book movies now and how much people expect from them.

Of the two hour run time, Batman doesn't really kick much a$$, but it's still an engaging story and Jack Nicholson is quality as the Joker. I didn't even wish that Batman did more.

I liked the Joker emblem on the purple Helicopters, true comic book/TV series style.

I also liked the fact that the Joker used props and didn't have any "updated" special powers and Batman made his gadgets, although a little updated.

All of the movies now are "updated for the times" I give you organic web slingers as an example.

I'm not a comic book fan boy by any means, I don't even own a Marvel comic for example. This has it's pros and cons, it means I can enjoy the movie without being critical of changes, but it also means I might not understand certain things or subtlties.

Now we expect the world form our super heroes, even I do, with all the special effects at our disposal making such comic book scenes possible (actors for the 15ft Hulk audition must have been pretty hard to find ).

I was trying to think about what impact Batman had on the movie world in '89 and how soon was it after that, that the next comic book movie graced the screen (apart from Batman sequels) because now they seem to be dominating the big screen.

I'm not a comic book fan boy by any means, I don't even own a Marvel comic for example. This has it's pros and cons, it means I can enjoy the movie without being critical of changes, but it also means I might not understand certain things or subtlties

What are your thoughts on this "phenomena?"

ghost world is one of my favorite movies.

daniel clowes wrote the comic book, its just about these two girls, enid and rebecca who graduate high school and are trying to figure out what to do with their lives. the movie is so good, but on a different level than the comic book. theyre pretty different. besides the characters and a few lines and senerios from the comic book, its quite different. but terry zwigoff did a great job casting thora as enid

i think batman really benefited from the Burton. it had a very good story aswell- i do agree it is one of the better comic book adaptation, and i agree with you, i get annoyed when they change things that dont really need to be changed, like the web
