Vaction: 20th Anniversery - Breaks Street Date

Just got home from my local Borders where they had 5 copies of the new Vacation DVD (streets Aug 19) on the shelf.... Bought it, but haven't watched it yet.

I posted in case anyone was interested..... it was $14.99, but i had a 20% off coupon (the one in the Bargains area, that expires Sunday)

That's awesome man! I hope you enjoy that, and that everything looks good. I'll be picking up the box set when that comes along, but I can't wait to hear how the disc you picked up looks.

That's great. I've been waiting for this for a long time, but since the boxset with all 4 films won't drop until October, I'm going to have to hold off.

Fill us in on it when you get a chance!

Yeah, it broke street date here in San Francisco, too. I saw it last night at TWO places.

I wonder if this was deliberate on the part of WHV to capitalize on the fact that all those 80s comedies from MGM were released this week.

Thanks again for the tip TroubledSpirits. I just got back from BORDERS and have my 20th ANNIVERSARY VACATION in hand. Plus I used Unicorn's 20% off coupon. I'm just gonna give away my fullscreen that i bought last year, I never even took it out of the case! Oh well, I can't wait to hear the Griswold family commentary.

Just about every store in San Francisco is selling this already. I got mine last week. It's a nice disc. Good picture, sound. The commentary is strangely thin though. 6 people are there and it is mostly silence. And when they do talk they tend to bring up something interesting and then drop it.

The little clips in the interactive tructser feature are cute. Nothing special. There is video of the daughter explaining why she wasn't in European Vacation. Clips of Chase and Quaid. Etc.

Unfortunately, the Borders stores here in Raleigh, NC have not broken street date on this title. I'm getting anxious now...

sorry I haven't commented on the disc yet, but I haven't even seen it yet because I'm leaving to college in 3 days, and between packing and preparing, I haven't had time to see anything I've bought in the last month...

Sorry...some of us do pay attention when titles come in early and pull them to the side until the proper date.

Borders is not the only one to break street date on "Vacation." The Wherehouse, which is located right around the corner from where I live has it out on the shelf already, same with "The Kid Stays in the Picture" and "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" as well. 3 allowences I saved over a month for are going either tonight or tomorrow. I don't know which just yet. Depends when I get it.

Gee not like one thing was promised and then not delivered in a DVD!!!

example: I preorder Omegaman in 2001 suppose to come in duel format Pan&scan and wide screen, I picked up the wide screen only version that was released last week.

example: The PG release of Swamp Thing!!

Only and asshole would think that you'd get what a movie company promised!!!

Universal promised the DVD Duel this month, where is it????

Here in Cleveland, we have a chain of stores called Record Exchange (I think recently renamed The Exchange) that is ALWAYS breaking street. Basically, if you want a new release and you aren't afraid to pay retail, they usually have their DVD titles days before street date.

Oh, and while I'm at it... we have a Coconuts that has a huge used DVD section that has NEW releases in the used bins a couple of days AFTER release. These aren't rental, and usually 50% off retail. Anyone have any idea HOW they do this?
