Films where you cried.
Okay, so I'm ripping off my "Songs that made you cry" thread in the music forum, but I'd like to know what movies get to you this time. I've only cried at a handful, so here they are in no particular order (and please, no negative comments on mine or other people's choices; we're all sensitive here
):The Pianist About Schmidt Gangs of New York The Green Mile The Shawshank Redemption Good Will Hunting One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Talk to Her Y Tu Mama Tambien (the end scene in the coffee shop) Waking Life (once you figure out what's going on) Driving Miss Daisy (the very last seconds of the movie got to me) |

"Carrie", when I first saw it at 13, and "Dancer in the Dark" (in the middle of the film, not the end). That's it I believe.
..and Cappy, I'd love to comment on some of those choices but *zip* ![]()

I get emotionally involved in MANY MANY movies, but strangely it's not too often I get tears coming down the cheeks. While I've encountered films that I may have found more emotional, I can only recall 3 films that genuinely brought multiple tears to my eyes:
- ET - Boyz N the Hood - Courage Under Fire Oddly, I own none on DVD, but will eventually get 2 of them (not much interested in ET anymore)- especially when the Boyz SE comes out next month! |

Like Marq, I will often get emotional during a movie, with the teary-eyedness and the lump in the throat and so on. But the only time I can remember where I had tears literally streaming down my face was at the end of 61*, during the McGwire press conference footage. I'm a sucker for baseball movies, I guess.

I'm really tender-hearted and a lot of movies have made me cry. Even movies with happy endings make me cry. If a baby's born, I cry. If there's a wedding, I cry.
I recently watched How Green Was My Valley for the first time. A couple scenes made me cry. The part where two of the boys say they're going to America and their mom hugs them. I'm a mom, so that got to me. And the part where that awful teacher hit the boy with a stick. I loved it when those two guys went to the school to "teach" him a lesson. Other movies that made me cry (either for joy or sadness): Little Women (1995) - Hey, I'm a sap. I gladly admit it. ![]() Gone With the Wind Imitation of Life ![]() Mr. Holland's Opus Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Father of the Bride A League of Their Own (When the one girl finds out her husband died in the war.) Man in the Moon (Starring a 14-year-old Reese Witherspoon) Sense and Sensibility Steel Magnolias Prince of Egypt Braveheart (bawled at the end) Pay it Forward I'm sure there are many others. ![]() Last edited by Niki : 08-06-2003 at 09:18 AM. |

There have been quite a few, but these are the ones that I can recall right now, I'll update it as and when I remember more:
Untamed Heart City of Angels Wizard of Oz (used to get me all the time when I was a child), now the theme tune holds sentimental value for me (Judy Garland's 'Over the Rainbow') - it reminds me of my late Grandad, we were very close. Titanic The Green Mile We Were Soldiers Saving Private Ryan Gladiator Last edited by MJZ : 08-06-2003 at 12:22 PM. Reason: Update. |

To me, the endings of Courage under Fire, Braveheart, and Gladiator are very emotional. I do remember my eyes getting a little watery in Mighty Joe Young...must've been some dust.

The 2 movies that come to mind are The Fox and The Hound, and Grave of the Fireflies. Both those films have me blubbering like a baby at the end.

Field of Dreams "Dad, wanna have a catch? Made me bawl all the way through the credits.
Godfather Part III after Mary is shot and Michael flashes back to his dances with Apolonia, Kay and Mary, with that beautiful music playing. The Rookie when he is trying to compose himself to tell his son that he got called up to the majors. Damn I'm crying right now just thinking about that last one. And a lot of others like Saving Private Ryan, Moulin Rouge, The Natural, Hoosiers, etc.

Thanks to Mickey Knox, I now have "When the Wind Blows" playing in an eternal loop in the movie theater in my brain. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
from imdb.com and slightly edited to aovid spoilers... Based on Raymond Briggs' book. A old British couple, Jim and Hilda, who live in the countryside, believe in the fact that the Government will always know what it is doing. However the world is fast heading for the Third World War between the US and the Soviets. Jim prepares for it by building a shelter using Goverment pamphlets however both of them still believe that the war will be fought like the Second World War and they can't fully understand that the war will be fought with nuclear weapons. All too soon, war breaks out and Jim and Hilda survive a nuclear blast. They stand back and wait, they believe, for help from the Government and for things to get back to normal in a couple of days, little knowing that help isn't on its way...

Man, more than this old blubberpuss can probably think about, but....
E.T. Titanic (shut up and leave me alone too) Welcome to the Dollhouse (her dream where everyone says "We love you Dawn" -- hit far too close to home) Mr. Baseball (when Selleck's running bases on his own and his teammates, who've been very hard on him up to now, rush out to run with him - chokes me up because THAT'S the essence of a team) Field of Dreams (half the damn movie chokes me up) Return of the Jedi (original cut) (made me cry in the theater opening day, but then again I HAD spent 12 hours overnight in line and had gotten maybe 2 hours' sleep) The Rescuers Dumbo (when he tears up while holding his mother's trunk, oh boy, waterworks for me) Bambi ("the scene") Pinocchio A.I. (near the end) Frequency My Life (wrenching, simply wrenching) True Romance (the "you gotta lotta heart, kid" scene; the raw emotional impact is breathtaking) JFK (Costner's impassioned speech at the end) A League of Their Own (the notice from the War Department scene and afterwards; Geena Davis saying "Oh sweetie...oh sweetie" REALLY gets me) Schindler's List (when Neeson starts to break down) Forrest Gump (when he sees his son for the first time) -- Movie that makes me cry the most, EVER: Grave of the Fireflies (I had to turn it off after 20 minutes I was crying in heaving sobs so hard...went another 20 minutes, had to turn it off again for the same reason....the little girl offering her brother "rice balls" made of mud is just so, so heartbreaking that I become a puddle of goo) Currently in theaters, Seabiscuit is the latest tearjerker for me, but in a happy, triumphant way. I've no doubt missed a few others that made an impact on me, but this is a good decent list of movies at which I recall crying. (My ex cried at the end of Terminator 2, which fascinates me to no end.) Last edited by papibear : 08-06-2003 at 04:19 PM. |

Hmmm, let's see if I can remember some of 'em...
Titanic - I just lost it in the theater, as did everyone I was with. My one friend couldn't stop sobbing for a while. The Green Mile - Mr. Jingles... yeah, I cried for a mouse. Magnolia - This might seem odd, but I cried during the "Wise Up" sequence. I think it was just 'cause that scene was so unexpected to me, and so beautifully put together. Field Of Dreams - I think every man cries at the end of this. Saving Private Ryan - At the end, the "tell me I'm a good man" line (or whatever it is exactly), and when Mellish (it was him, wasn't it?) got the knife in the heart. *shivers* Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan - Spocks dies. I lose it. "I have been and always shall be your friend." E.T. - When I was a kid, not sure if it'd have the same effect now. The Shawshank Redemption - The end. SlingBlade - When the kid looks at the piece of paper Carl left in his book. 'You Will Be Happy'. I'm sure there are more, and even though this isn't a movie, I'd like to make a special mention to the final episode of Star Trek: TNG, since I definitely cried at the end of that. Seven years with that crew, and then they were gone... *sniff*
