From what I hear, the transfer on the Elite version is far superior - plus it's in the original aspect ratio.

I have both and now I have to go back and see which does have the better picture; the Book of the Dead version is worth it for the Bruce Campbell piece on fanatics. I picked up a 2nd copy at a discount place that actually had it in their used books sections and I got it for $5!

I can't say which version is better on a technical level, but...
I can say that I have long since sold off my Elite version of the film. I find the picture on the BOTD edition better. I don't know if it's the letterboxing compostion or what. But, any time I tried to watch all the way through the Elite version, something about the picture and the audio track just ended up making me nauseus and giving me a bad headache before the movie was over. Watching the BOTD edition, I'm all smiles all the way through the movie. I can't believe the difference. It's Image Terminator vs. MGM Terminator different...
