Film is an incredible thing.

I never really realized how amazing and important film is to me. I set up my home theater system just a week ago but didnt get the chance to test it out 100%. So today I poped in T2: Extreme Edition and played it at max volume... wow. The opening THX logo, the war sequence, the music, then the opening titles to fire... Jesus. It almost brought a tear to my eye, its so incredible how everything just feels so good when you watch a movie you really enjoy, and sometimes most people take it for granted. But yeah, I truly madly deeply love film.

I'm talking like a drunk!

Right on, SephirothClone!

Films rule! I had the same experience the first time I saw the opening credits of Superman: The Movie on DVD. I got chills and teared up at the same time.

There is just so much I adore about moments like these in film that it makes me feel so sad when we settle for crap on celluloid. Film is our main mode of entertainment as a culture. Every one of us should demand better stories to match the technical magic we see on a regular basis on the big screen.

Me too! My re-discovery of Superman: The Movie on DVD was something that nearly had me in tears as well. I had never realized just how well put-together that movie really was as I hadn't seen it since I was a kid. And John Williams' score which I had originally written off as corny was another re-discovery of sorts for me. Easily his best, most stirring score.

I had a similar experience with the first Poltergeist on DVD as well.

Without ying there's no yang, so I welcome all "bad" movies. Life would be pretty boring if everyone would film, watch and like the movies I do (or so my mom told me)...

And, oh yeah, FILMS FUCKIN' FLY!

Films DO indeed rule, and DVD totally rocks as a way to savor and enjoy our favorite films.

But let's not forget -- no matter how big TV screens get, the best of these films belong on a GIANT MOVIE SCREEN IN A THEATRE. That's really the best way to experience films - on celluloid (although I must admit digital cinema has some very interesting qualities) and in a theatre on a huge screen. DVDs on a home theater system only lets us recall the glory of the theatrical experience (which SHOULD be a glorious, even near-religious experience).

I agree films rule, there has been plenty of things ive discovered because of them and also they are something great that you can share with everyone, even if the movie sucks or your friends or family think it sucks.

Also a movie can awake many great feelings in you, for example with the Star Wars saga, i always get thrilled everytime i see one of the movies and i always cheer for Luke, Han and Chewie.

A while back i saw Pirates of the Caribbean and it just like those classical big budget Hollywood movies "Thrills, Chills, Spills, You'll Laugh, You'll Cry, you dont know who's gonna die" very few movies nowadays can do that.

In the end its just a great experience and just pure fun and something that you can share with everyone.

And that's why POTC has grossed more at the box office than T3. Last weekend, even "GIGLI" earned more than T3!!! POTC, on the other hand, hung onto the Number 2 spot, surpassing the newer "Bad Boys II".

Just goes to show what audiences will respond to when you do it RIGHT. I am really glad POTC is doing so well!

I agree, I think movies are best experienced in the theater. The theater is still my favorite place to view a film.

there definately is nothing else like enjoying a movie with 200 other people, it is great though when you can watch a movie, and all special features on a movie theater size screen, now if you can get 200 friends to come over, your set

While I enjoy seeing action movies in a theatre.

I can honestly say that I much more prefer emotional films and dramas in my own home without all those other people around me.

For example, I enjoyed watching "It Runs In The Family" in the theatre, but I can almost guarantee you that when I watch it again at home, there are several points in it that will bring me to tears, which did not come close to happening in the theatre.

Oh wait, that's a different thread, isn't it?
