28 Days Later announced!

From the front page:
Even more gory thrills can be had a week later on October 21st when Fox unleashes the British zombie sleeper 28 Days Later. Available in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen flavors both with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks, extras include audio commentary with director danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland, not one but three alternate endings, deleted Scenes, the "Pure Rage" featurette, two still galleries, storyboards, a music video and theatrical and teaser trailers. Retail is also $27.95.

Sounds pretty much like the british DVD which ive heard its very good, i dont understand why separate WS and FS releases, specially since the movie wasnt so popular with the mainstream anyway.

I have yet to see the movie, but ill try to see it as soon as possible, but hey the release date is close enough for a Halloween Horror movie party

Awesome, this sounds like it'll be a pretty good set. 28 Days Later was definitely one of the best films of the summer and I look forward to having it on DVD.

Seeing as how much I disliked this movie, I don't see the extras being enough to make me want to buy it.

Especially since I can look at his winkey all I want in the trailer included on the Daredevil DVD...

Man, i just saw this, i really, really liked it. But i really do feel sorry for the guys who see this in Full-Screen because its noticeable that it was shot open-matte because i noticed a lot of boom mikes and matte images at the top and the whole bottom was horribly misframed, stupid projeccionists but it was a dollar theater and hey at least the sound was good.

I already have the British set, but I'll probably pick the R1 release up so I can watch it on my better player and force it on my friends. I loved the film enough to buy the 'foreign' DVD, and double-dip.

The UK DVD only had one alternate ending that I recall so a bit more on the extras front for R1.

The backcover, from www.dvdempire.com

I kind of like it, but calling it the "Scariest movie since The Exorcist" is just a bit too much, but then again, they do this to every single Horror film that has been coming out in the past few years.

Review from the HTF: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=160999

Ive seen a lot of complaints about the edge haloing in the transfer, but when i saw it in theaters i noticed it in a lot of scenes. So far, this looks like a great DVD to own.

Another review, this time from www.chud.com http://www.chud.com/chudvd/reviews/28days.php3

Also when i saw the film, i was thinking almost the exact same thing as the reviewer when the scene in the 2nd screenshot of the review appeared.

Thanks for the link Oscar.

I picked this up today as a blind buy & really dug it (don't you love when that happens?). I liked the trailer when it was out in the theaters but I couldn't convince the girlfriend to go since she hates horror films. The review over on Chud pretty much summed up how I felt about it (sketchy 3rd act)... wish they could have spent more time developing the "radical ending", which was shown as rather nice storyboard presentation among the extras.

This might seem like an odd question, but how 'gory' is it? I'm not a fan of gory horror films. "Event Horizon" was really pushing the limit.

This is one of those mostly implied gore films. Sure, there is some blood here and there, but the whole "rabid" nature of the infected is mostly due to the direction and the use of the digital camera work. If 'Event Horizon" was just about as much as you can take, then you should be fine with this. Plus...it's a much better movie!!!

I'm not squeamish or anything, but making a scene gory for the shock value isn't my thing. That's why I was asking.

You won't get any argument out of me regarding Event Horizon.

Let's take the time to be thankful for the box art, considering the cover does NOT have a critic's quote on it, and the back only has one.

Thank you. Thank you.

Oh yeah, IS there a fullscreen version? Because at my local wal mart, they were ONLY stocking Widescreen. That happens, oh, NEVER.

My Wal Mart had a total of 3 widescreen copies!! So of course I bought one of the 3.. I was pretty excited for the 3 alt. endings to find out one of them is all storyboards with commentary. I was glad fox didnt make this one another flipper with FS and WS on each side. The only disappointment for me is they didnt include the first teaser where it shows the city all empty and you can kind of hear a little girl humming if I remember correctly then out of no where a it shows a quick shot of a zombie and makes this loud noise. I will admit I jumped.

It really depends on the person, I didnt find it too disturbingly goru until the "Eye-Poking" scene at the end of the film, its been the only time ive ever looked away during a scene like that in a film, what makes it worse is the camera movement in the scene, instead of looking away or cutting like so many other films do it actually closes in more and more!

The rest is pretty much stuff like blood spatter, blood vomiting (A sympton of the infection) but most of it its implied, but that makes it even more disturbing.

Believe me, this isnt one of those R-rated films that teens will be able to hold into like the "Scream" films, this is pure raw cinema (At least for the most part).

I had high hopes for this movie, but as usual it turned out to be a dissappointment. Reason being is that the storyline had so many in holes in it. First all, why didn't they take better precaution in protecting themselves. I mean you pretty much had the entire city at your disposal, surely they could have gotten hold of some type of body amor and fullfaced masks as well as some better weapons. Also if you were to venture out somewhere, why take a POS car like they did, how about an amour truck loaded with weapons and supplies. I didn't get the soldiers motives, hell it was only 28 days and they only thing they could think of their own satisfaction. Why not divise of plan of escaping via boat or plane, instead they decide to act like bunch of horndogs. Anyway these are few shortcomings that could have been easily dealt with.

Yeah! bad-ass weapons and a wicked tank would've showed them zombies good!!!
While I'll admit the plot had many holes, I never doubted the protagonists' behaviours mentioned there. If anything, I would have been even more panic-stricken to have the balls to even do what they did.
Please explain how they would go about finding all these guns, body-armour, masks, an armoured truck with even more weapons and gear, and plan escape via plane or boat all the while trying to move as little as possible out of complete fear that rage-filled monsters with enourmous speed will sense any motion and kill you in seconds...
I thought they were almost too damn resourceful and lucky to miraculously get what they got accomplished...

I agree with Marq here, and besides im sure that if a person would stay completely isolated from civilization for 4 weeks and killing people they know at the same time the person would go at least a bit insane.

And besides none of them knew how to fly a plane or handle an army tank, this isnt Battlefield Earth.
