24 sampler disc at Best Buy

Anybody else pick up the free sampler disc of 24 Season 2 at Best Buy? It includes the first two episodes of Season 2. This strikes me as a pretty good promotional idea by Fox. It introduces people like me who have never seen the show to a few episodes in hopes of increasing dvd sales and tv ratings. It will be interesting to see if Fox decides to do this with any other tv shows.

You're right, it is a good idea and a great marketing tool. I am a little doubtful if they'll do it for any others only because 24 is SO dependent on each subsequent episode. It is essentially one long movie broken up into episodic parts.

The only other shows so continuity dependant are HBO series, and they hardly need the promotional push.

Hey, I'm all for freebies for DVD fans.... I hope it continues.

It's also nice that the coupon on the back gives you $5 off of each season box set... mail-away rebate of course.

I picked this up yesterday, and watched the two episodes. Damn Kim Baur is fucking hot! I watched the entire first season on DVD (didn't catch it on TV since it was the same time as SMALLVILLE). I wanted to see the third episode as soon as the second one ended. Only a few more days to go till the box is released. The entire second season will be new to me too since I also didn't catch it on TV.

I did not get a chance to get to Best Buy yet. I probly won't be near one untill like Saturday, I hope they will still have the free sampler disc. I have never watched the show (because I'm never home at that time on Friday nights). I thought of renting the S1 DVDs, but never did. This will give me a chance to finally see the show.

My Best Buy must not have been doing this promotion... I would have been interested, I never saw any episodes of 24 but it's had so much good press... Oh well.

Keep your eyes peeled on the secondary market (eBay). It'll be there.

Well, if you can find it, cool. But that is the only way I got my FOX sampler DVDs. I look at it this way, if I want it, I'll pay for it.

I would strongly advise against watching this season two sampler before you see season one, Donkey, as the plot twists of the first season will be heavily spoiled. Just FYI.

YES DO NOT WATCH ANY OF SEASON 2 BEFORE SEASON ONE VIEWING IS COMPLETE I made the unfortunate mistake last year and ruined some stuff in season one. But hell it was still the best series to watch. I git my 2 managers at work all hyped for season 2. (lent my collection for them to view)

Agreed! Season 1 of 24 is one of the best blind buys I've ever done.

Donkey-

Gotta agree with everyone else, don't watch any of Season 2 until you've gone through Season 1.

Actually, it's always been on Tuesday nights (although the during the first season, they would sometimes show an encore on Fridays).

Anyway, you've got my recommendation. If you like action/suspense at all, you won't be disappointed. This is one of the best TV series to come along in a long time, even with the Kim Bauer subplots (which I don't mind that much, anyway).

And watch Season 1 first. (Unless you're just going to start with Season 2.)

Donkey, I'm going to add another vote for NOT watching any season 2 episodes until you've seen the complete first season, and another vote for buying/renting/borrowing season 1 and watching it. It's really a good show. I've gotten others hooked on it by suggexting they watch it.

Ditto on the 'watch season 1 before anything else' idea. I got my dad completely hooked on this show by making him sit and watch the DVDs as soon as I bought 'em. I think he got through them all in about a week or so.

This has been one of my favorite shows since the beginning of season 1, and it's in my top 5 for currently active TV shows (probably right there at #2, if I was forced to rank it).

Thanks for the advice guys. I will pick up but not watch the S2 Sampler. I will rent (or buy used for cheaper) S1. Also, I'm one of those people if i start watching a show, I'll see the first few and then miss the next (and you can't get do that with this show), then forget about it, and when I rember I say "Ah, forget I've missed (so-so many) episodes already."
