This might just be your 'Ichi the Killer' R1 confirmation.

See?

I'm going to buy this DVD quietly and not tell anyone I have it because people already think I'm weird enough for picking up The Eye. Oh, and let's not even talk about the City of Lost Souls controversy.

That's cool news, I was planning on getting a region-free player next week and I was going to buy the Dutch version of Ichi, but now I'll probably wait until we see what the features and quality of this release are. I've been really interested in seeing a Miike film for quite a while now and last night I finally got to see my first, The Happiness of the Katakuris. What a wonderfully odd film, I know its pretty much considered the tamest of Miike's films but if the rest of them are anywhere near as cool as The Happiness of the Katakuris then I'm sure I'll love them.

I think what's stunning about 'Katakuris' is that the original Korean movie 'The Quiet Family' was much more harsh and mean- Miike made it a nice family movie! Richard is my HERO.

And hooray! I'll use the dutch slipcase to hold my R1 disc. Mmm. Slipcase good!

I wasn't too impressed when I saw the film the first time. Maybe I should take out my old VHS and see it again, maybe I'll be tempted to upgrade.

Even if it was bare bones, I think this will be only the... 3rd release that will be fully uncut? I think the 3rd.

...just don't make me shell out cash for the edited R2 UK edition for the commentaries

Why can't all the miike movies just be released by American Cinematheque? They've pretty much gone the extra mile when talking about DVD extras, even snagging Miike to record a commentary for the US 'Katakuris' disc. Sure, Mediablasters seems to be getting there in terms of overall quality, (Though the video on the Versus disc should have looked better, even with such a low-budget movie...) but American Cinematheque seems to be more extensive when doing DVDs.

...at least Mediablasters DVDs have menus now...

Special Features would be nice, but I just want to see the movie. I'm not region free capable, so I haven't really had the option of seeing this movie uncut. I'm really excited to see some more of Miike's stuff. Thus far, I've only seen City of Lost Souls, which I thought was decent, and Audition, which I love. There aren't any places around here to rent Katakuris, Visitor Q, or any of his other films, so I have been gradually buying up his titles.

Sundance Channel is still running Miike movies (August was Miike month!) so if you have the station, go for it. Otherwise Netflix might be the best way, they carry all buy one Miike r1 disc (Fudoh: The New Generation. Which everyone should see for the schoolgirl assassin who shoots darts from her hoo-hah.)

Unfortunately, I do not have the Sundance Channel, but I'll try the Netflix route.

Any news on specs yet? I refuse to believe that this is barebones. I'll bet the specs just havent been announced yet. And, why the hell isnt this on the media blasters web site yet?

Here's hoping for the definitive (all the fetures from dutch and UK) ICHI.

Ok, only a few days till this is released and I'm still not sure about official specs. Amazon has three versions up: a rated, unrated and director's cut version (similar to MB's VERSUS releases)

The Media Blasters website only lists the Rated and "Unrated Special Edition" versions. It appears the Rated version doesnt really have any special features, but it lists "Features: Commentary with Director Takashi Miike and Manga Artist/Writer Hideo Yamamoto, Photo Gallery and Trailers" for the USE.

So can anyone post the official specs and info for all the R1 releases

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think we'll be seeing Ichi in action this Tuesday.

Media Blasters has had a bad habit of delaying DVDs as of late. They say a DVD will be out on X date. They give some or full specs. That date rolls around and you can't find it. Why? Because no one got it. Everyone says the release was that day, though. Media Blasters just decides to delay the release without telling customers or retailers, or giving an updated release date or even an ETA and a reason why it didn't so up as expected.

Most recently was their 2-disc SE of 'Zombie' or 'Zombi 2'.

...I don't know. We've been asking about the transfer, extras, if it's a 2-disc set, etc, for months now, and no one has been able to find out anything they didn't already know.

I just smell a missing Ichi on Tuesday.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....damn you!!! I hope it isn't delayed. I've been looking forward to seeing it for a while now, I've only seen one Miike film previously (Audition) but loved all the trailers I've seen for this movie.

Heres hoping we see it on Tuesday.

Netflix has it up for pre-rental, and I'll slip it into my top rental spot, if it ships off, then I'll mention it. Netflix also has DOA 2 and 3 up for pre-rental as well, I think those come out (Plus the DOA box set) on the 25th.

...

My pre-order for Ichi on Deepdiscountdvd.com is back-ordered.

Let's hope backordered is "we sold out" and not "we don't have anything to send anyone who ordered this".

We'll see shortly.

When the reviews section for Ichi the Killer on media-blasters.com fills up with thousands of "F*CK YOU MEDIA BLASTERS AND YOUR DELAYED RELEASES", we'll know what happened.

Netflix has it listed as 'VERY LONG WAIT' so who knows.
However, Suicide Club is available now.

I ordered my copy last Tuesday because I knew it would be a hard title to find.
Barnes and noble called and said Ichi The Killer is in!
They did tell me the dvd was the director's cut when I ordered.
I'll have to pick it up tommorrow before work.

Well . . . DVD Empire just sent me my email confirmation of my 11/25 order, and even though they have updated their release date for Ichi to the 25th, alas it did not ship yet again . . .

Perhaps next week . . .

Peace
