There was a thread on it awhile back when it was announced:

Carlito's Way

But I haven't seen much more on it.

If the making of doesn't runs two hours, I'd say this is a pretty disappointing special edition for the most quotable movie in filmhistory...

You think you like me? You ain't like me motherfucker! I've been with made people, connected people! Who've you been with? Chain snatching, jive talking motherfuckers! Why don't you get out of here and go snatch a purse!

Yeah, it's disapointing that the inferior De Palma/Pacino collaboration, Scarface, is getting the full 2-disc SE treatment over this gem, just because the Rap-Monkeys demanded it. Still, Laurent Bouzerau's documentaries rarely disapoint, and the film is worth owning regardless of extra features.

*laughs* Yeah, Monterey Jack, it was a sad day in 1999 that I felt compelled to take down my vintage 'Scarface' poster after hearing private-school alumnus Puff fucking Daddy raving about it on MTV.

What's a Rap-Monkey?

But seriously, I had no idea that hip-hop artists had such an influence on the production of DVDs.

Here's a little trip by way of the way-back machine...

1990, Houston shock-rappers Geto Boys release their self-titled debut, and it's laden with samples from 'Scarface'. "Say hello to my little friend!" "I buried those cock-a-roaches!" And so forth. Next thing you know, Flavor Flav is talking about it. Then Ice Cube is talking about it. By the end of the 90s, anybody who ever put shitty vocals over some stranger's music is talking about it. And the kids are noticing; more important, clothing designers and even *more* rappers are noticing, 'MTV Cribs' is noticing, and now you have the bizarre hip-hop cult of 'Scarface', people claiming with a straight face that it's the greatest movie ever made. It's quite the phenomenon. But I can say with utmost conviction that if the Geto Boys hadn't spent so much time sitting around getting high and watching 'Scarface', we probably wouldn't be getting the super-duper "Resurrection Edition" of Brian De Palma's second-best crime flick starring Al Pacino curiously portraying a Hispanic.

Ah yes, good tale indeed.
And lest we forget the halfway-decent rapper actually called "Scarface"! Very subtle.

Now if only the Wu-Tang Clan had as much pull in getting killer editions of rare shaolin martial arts movies out on DVD...

*laughs* Well, in case you didn't know, Scarface is actually a former member of the Geto Boys. He started the whole damned thing.

For real, though.

Just watch NEW JACK CITY... they are practically playing with themselves because they are so amped up from screening SCARFACE
