Snappers and Keepcases

When you place your DVDs on your shelf do you line up the keepcases so they are even with the snappers or do you just push both the keepcases and the snappers to the back of the shelf making them uneven?

If you see my HT post, you'll see that I have no choice but to have them uneven. DAMN SNAPPERS!!! Thank god it seems that the WB is finally coming around!

It dosen't matter to me if the Snappers stick out from the keep cases because there is nothing I can do about it. I have [most] of my DVDs from #-Z order.

They don't stick out because when I put them on shelves I keep a little space behind the dvds and I make them even from the front.

That's what I tried doing but it became really difficult to keep them all even. A lot of the DVDs would always get pushed back.

It depends on how many dvds you have and how often you use them. I only have about 20 dvds.

I used to seperate them by snapper and keep, but that got annoying for whatever reason. Now they're all thrown together, A-Z order with numbers going by spelling too (12 Monkeys under "Tw" for example). Most box sets are on top of the entertainment center (though space is fading fast).

I remember at one point really considering converting them all to keepcases, using internet art and such, but it's a costly and time consuming thing...

I also have my collection in alphabetical order, no
matter if they are snapper crappers or keepcases
(I have multi-disc sets seperate from single disc
films). The two reasons I hate snappers-

1. If you on-line purchase alot of DVDs (which I do),
you can get a damaged cardboard shell very easily

2. If the hub in the plastic insert breaks, you are shit
out of luck. I don't know if you can get the plastic
insert by itself. If Warner Brothers insists on releasing
their films in these damn things, they should make
available the plastic inserts if you need them.

I only have about thirty DVDs and I still find it difficult to have all the cases lined up evenly.

Some cool art there, but my printer sucks and I've heard their print-outs are low quality...

I keep all snappers and keepers in one big happy A-Z format. I keep the fronts all lined up. Sometimes they may get pushed back, but it's easy to go along and even out the line. Doesn't take long to fix and it's pretty easy to do. The only real problem is sometimes the keeper catches on the snapper going in or coming out, but it's a very minor issue and hasn't caused me any fits. Still, I really prefer the keepers and hope WB really is going to dump the snapper format.

Have about thirty or so dvd's as well. I have other dvd's that are uneven (Criterions, LOTR: EE, special 2-disc cases) so it doesn't matter. The snappers are as uneven as a lot of other dvd's I have.

I have deeper shelves, so I make the keep cases and the snappers even with each other.

I really only have two instances where Snapper and Keepcase need to next to each other (Austin Powers, Blade), Other than that, since I organize by production co., I dont have to worry about it.

As previously mentioned, I've converted all my snappers to keepcases. www.dvdcoverart.com is good, and they are usually pretty good quality, actually. I just started using that site recently, however. Most of the snappers I've done myself, and it's pretty easy to do. The only thing I don't do is TV stuff, which is on a separate shelf.

I hate the snappers but I keep everything in alphabetical order so they are mixed in with the rest. However, I align all of my cases on the leading edge of the shelf so nothing sticks out. Looks very nice but it is a huge pain when people come over and start touching them. Why they can't see that the DVDs are aligned and at least try to put them back that way is beyond me.

Funny thing is all of my DVDs (350+) are in cases behind tinted glass so you can't even really see if they are nicely alinged... but I know and it bothers me if they aren't perfect.

Snappers :-( :-( :-(

Snappers are annoying....simply put. I bought Goldmember, and then Austin Powers 1 & 2 all seperately. The first two are in the snappers and then like one month after buying them I saw in walmart.... Austin Powers 1 and 2 in their own extremely nice keep cases that are colored yellow and green....... and I am stuck with cardboard pieces of junk. I wish you could just buy the keep case...... I would do it....

What I did do though is buy about 20 keep cases offline to put other snappers in. I cut up the cardboard cover to get it into the clear keep case thing. It works out but it isn't 100% great.....

And on the thing of where I put them.... who cares.... :-)

Seems funny to me that you would be anal enough to replace all of your snappers with keep cases but you don't care where you put them?

I am equally anal about the cases of the discs and the cases for my collection.

Boy, I have to disagree with that! So let me add my voice to the chorus of deanandmaria and others here who love DVDcoverart.com.

If you don't have a printer, you can buy a print-out from them. I used to do that, and I found their print-outs to be amazing. I now have a good printer and print out their cover-scans and slip them into blank keep cases... and they look every bit as good as the image on the snapper... only better, because they are now behind the loving plastic of a keep case. If you all hate snappers as much as some you profess to do, then you owe it to yourself to check it out. It is like $5 for 20 or so downloads of very high resolution snapper scans (I may be off on the price... I forgot what I paid, but it wasn't much). I now have NO snappers in my collection... just rows of perfectly lined up keep cases (including The Matrix, Diner, Willy Wonka, Nat. Lampoon's Vacation, The Shining, and on and on and on)....

Well I have seen two Phish DVDs both in snappers cases.

Unfortunately they were black.

I've printed 7 or so covers from DVDCOVERART.COM and was supremely impressed by the quality of every one. I'm a graphic designer and I still can't figure out how they got some of them to look that good just off of a scan.
