National Lampoon's Vacation dvd music question

Can someone who has seen the recently released anniversary dvd of national lampoon's vacation tell me if the pointer sisters song "I'm so excited" , featured when christie brinkley is on screen, has been included in the dvd. All the past home video versions had the song removed and replaced with another pointer sisters song. I guess there was a problem with music rights and I was wondering if they got it right this time.

Actually, no it uses "Little Boy Sweet" like the last DVD. The way I understand it, that's what was used in the theatrical cut, and "I'm So Excited" ("I'm so...scared!") has been used for TV versions. Why? I don't know. But maybe it's music rights issues for TV airings.

I saw vacation several times in the theater and "i'm so excited" was used in the movie everytime christie brinkley drove on screen. The pointer sisters even rereleased the song after the movie came out and it became a big hit all over again. I'll pass on the dvd and just watch the version I taped off cable since that is the original version. This is another botched dvd release.

Guys, you're both right.

"I'm so Excited" is used when Brinkley is driving.
"Little Boy Sweet" is used when they are parked. (Clark eats the pee-sandwich.)

And just to clarify, I'm talking both about the theatrical release, AND the new DVD. It has the music intact and correct, so no need to resort to VHS. (Ugh! )

Well, shit.

Colour me embarrassed, because I checked it out last night and it is not correct. Sorry for the blatant (unknowing) lie in my last post.

"I'm So Excited" has indeed been replaced by "Little Boy Sweet" in all the scenes...I guess I am just so used to the correct version that I imagined it a little too vividly and thought the new one was correct. Darklighter syndrome strikes again.

Oddly enough, (and annoyingly) "I'm So Excited" is where it should be on ALL the foreign language tracks.

"I'm So Excited" is indeed listed in the closing credits.

Well CRAP!

I just picked this up (and will be keeping it, because I love this movie).

Music rights issues just plain suck. I know they are just a reality of the business and all but still. I know it is not a huge deal, but that song (I'm So Excited) really fit there. I have only ever seen VACATION on TV and I am bummed to hear that that song is missing on the DVD.

...and it is present on the foreign language tracks?? How weird is that? Wonder if they did not have the U.S. rights to the song...

Very strange (and disappointing) indeed.

Oh well, at least I have it on disc now... but still...

Yep, I checked my copy last night and this is the case. It's so strange because I could understand if they couldn't get/wouldn't pay for the Region 1 rights. But even though the song is on the foreign tracks it's still a Region 1 release

I'm guessing that music rights was an issue, and now not re-replacing I'm SO Excited was just an oversight, because if the disc is released in the US, even in foreign languages, they'd have to get US clearance for any song.

Of course, maybe they were supposed to replace I'm So Excited on the foreign language tracks and THAT was the oversight.

Either way, it's not the most grievous error. I'm all for film purity, making the movie as much like it was when it was released as possible, but I can settle for one incredibly shitty Pointer Sisters song replacing another equally shitty Pointer Sisters song.

I've never heard of this phrase before, but Star Wars fan that I am, does it refer to the phenomenon of believing you saw something in a film that wasn't actually there (named after the multitude of people claiming to have seen the Biggs Darklighter scenes filmed but deleted from Star Wars: Episode IV, photos of which were included in The Star Wars Storybook and brief glimpses of which were seen in the TV special The Making of Star Wars)?

Sounds like we've got another issue like the BTTF framing one. Might be worth contacting WBHV about.

(Frankly, while I like this movie, my personal favorite is Vegas Vacation, thanks to Randy Quaid and Wayne Newton, and I'll be waiting for THAT SE.)

I wanted to hate this movie in the worst way. Chevy was long past funny, and I was just thinking why ruin my good memories of this series with a shit cash-in. I think I was pleasantly surprised. First, we have a hot, hot, hot, hot (did I mention hot) Audrey! They entire Rusty thread was pee-myself funny. And then add Cousin Eddie and watch the fun go! I loved the crappy casino and buffett that he took Clark to. Newton is so easy to make fun of, yet comes off so well in the movies he does - where he is just making fun of himself anyway. So while I have to rate my enjoyment of this movie behind that of the original and Christmas (let's never speak of European), Vegas is not too far behind.

That's it exactly. I don't know if it's in common usage, but I sure use it a lot. (It's usually reserved for completely imagined stuff, but I figured it was fair game to use for something that used to be there, so I imagined that it was still there.)
