The Movie Ants

Can anyone tell me if this is a good movie or is it just a competitive rip-off of A Bug's Life? How is the dts track?

Antz is a very good movie that holds it's own with A Bug's Life. Very much recommended. I only have the DD version which is very good.

I enjoyed Antz and can recommend it without hesitation. The animation is exceptional and the story does stand on its own when compared to A Bug's Life. I don't have the DTS version, but the DD version sounds good.

I'm probably in the minority here...I do like both movies but I enjoy watching ANTZ more than I do A Bug's Life.

I give both Antz and A Bug's Life Antz is geared more towards mature audiences, however, with some mild profanity and violence and a more "talky" screenplay, as opposed to the non-stop action setpieces of A Bug's Life. Plus, Antz features one of the best voice casts ever assembled for an animated film. Woody Allen, Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone, Christopher Walken, Jennifer Lopez, Sylvester Stallone, Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtain... I've never listened to the DTS version, but the DD version sounds terrific (some excellent surround effects), and the DTS version sacrifices one of the best commentaries I've heard (by directors Eric Darnell and Tim Johnson, who are funny and informative), plus some solid making-of featurettes. Go buy the DD version, you won't regret it.

I'm right there with you. I think Antz is very much superior to Bug's Life. It has a much stronger script.

I seem to be the only person who didn't like Ants.

I felt that it lacked the charm and charisma of A Bug's Life (if we have to compare them).

The voice acting seemed disjointed from the characters (something I notice most non-pixar, non-disney companies have problems with), like the characters were all already animated before they even knew who was voicing them (which I'm sure was not the case, but it still felt like that to me).

The character designs were also freaky german-expressionist bugs that just creeped me out from start to finish.

I also have a very low tolerance for Woody Allen's line deliveries and self-deprecation, so his character annoyed me from the get-go.

I never want to see this movie again.

Just my two cents.

I thought Antz was outstanding. A classic Woody Allen picture, much like his early stuff. If you liked Sleeper and Bananas or his films of that period, you'll probably love Antz.
