Wa-tah!!!

I'm on a massive martial-arts kick as of late and have been renting a bunch of Jet Li films that I have yet to see. I also finally picked up Iron Monkey, a really good film.

Anyway, is there any word on when and if they might be releasing the Kung-Fu series on DVD?

Here are my top 10 favorite martial-arts films:

1) Enter the Dragon
2) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
3) The Chinese Connection (aka Fist of Fury)
4) Way of the Dragon (plot, eh; fight scenes, wow!)
5) Iron Monkey
6) Black Mask
7) Police Force
8) Force: Five (cheesy as hell, but lots of fun)
9) Force of One
10) Bloodsport (acting atrocious; fight scenes and music, damn good)

Is it even out for rental yet? I looked for it the other day and came up dry.

Was it released under a different name here in the States?

Hero isn't available on region 1 dvd yet. Miramax has the US distribution rights, so its hard to say when they will release, or if they'll release it uncut for that matter. You can import a copy from www.dddhouse.com. Here's a link to the dvd. It's region 3, so you'll need a region free player to play it.

Looking at your top 10 there are some good ones that I'm surprised aren't on your list (of course I'm not sure what you've seen). Here's a short list of quintessential kung fu flicks.

Five Deadly Venoms
Shaolin Master Killer
Master of Flying Guillotine
The Prodigal Son

Jackie Chan
Snake in Eagle's Shadow
Drunken Master 1 & 2
Young Master

Jet Li
Fong Sai Yuk 1 & 2
Once Upon a Time in China 1 & 2
Fist of Legend (if you haven't seen this, seek it out immediately)
Swordsman 2
Kung Fu Cult Master

And tons more...

I'm going to recommend:

Tai Chi Master (AKA Twin Warriors) and
Tai Chi II
Wing Chun

And second

Fong Sai Yuk I and II (AKA The Legend 1 and 2)
Fist of Legend
Drunken Master I and II
Young Master

But whatever you do, AVOID Iron Monkey II no matter how cheap you find it! Its godawful!

Word on Drunken Master II. And I saw Twin Warriors and Fist of Legend on Action Encore recently. Kick ass!! Twin Warriors makes The Matrix Reloaded look like CGI shit!

I can't believe I forgot about Tai Chi Master and Wing Chun. Both great flicks. And I too fell prey to the cheap price on Iron Monkey II. I kept telling myself, it can't be that bad, it's got Donnie Yen and the first one kicked ass. Wrong!

And one newer title, I thought I'd mention is Storm Riders. It utilizes quite a bit of CGI, but has some great action.
