Unreleased Christmas Movie on DVD?
Dear Guys:
Since Scrooge, the 1970 musical is scheduled to come out on DVD this forthcoming week, what other Christimas movies would you like to see come out on DVD, that haven't come out yet? I know it's early to asking this, but if Scrooge is coming out this week, maybe we should start asking now. I'd like to see: A Christmas Carol (1970, Richard Williams animated version). One of the best animated versions ever done. Short, but artistically great. Any ideas on who owns the rights. If you haven't seen this version it easily ranks up there in the top 5. Visually original and stunning. More Rankin-Bass Christmas specials (the Little Drummer Boy Book II, the First Christmas Snow, The Leprechan's Christmas Gold, The Life and Times of Santa Clause, etc). The Littlest Angel (the Johnny Whittaker 1969 version). Ok, I'm going to get knocked for this one, but I like it and the music. Came acrooss this one on a trivia game. There was an Art Carney holiday special, The Man Who Kidnapped Santa or something like that. Now, I'm curious about that one. What other ones would you like to see come out? Sincerely, JThree carolyn@dia.net

You are preaching to the choir for XMas dvd's for my family . . .well at least for my mom and sister. If they could have any 2 movies right now it would be these.
John Denver Xmas with The Muppets Muppets at the Farm (was out 2 years ago but now hard to find anywhere) I know i am missing a crap load of movies but these are the 2 they miss the most.

JThree,

My vote has to go to the Star Wars Holiday Special. Heard many things about it, all bizarro. Also, what was the role-reversed version of It's a Wonderful Life called--it starred Marlo Thomas, Wayne Rogers, and Orson Welles? "It Happened One Christmas"? Wouldn't mind seeing again. And, of course, we need a special-edition DVD of the 1951 Alastair Sim A Christmas Carol. Still the most literate, effective version, in my view.

The Art Carney episode of Twilight Zone was titled "The Night of the Meek" and is on Volume 1.
I think I know what you mean about the Kinescope being not as good as film, but just to clarify for other people here, there was no other version ever available. Saying it "survives only on..." could imply to some people that another version existed once. But, unfortunately, due to budget constraints for Season 2, Network Executives, required Serling to film 6 episodes of that Season with a Kinescope (or the same sort of thing). So, while they suck, I guess having only 6 episodes of that quality (or lack thereof) out of a series that ran for 156 episodes, isn't too bad.

Yeah my family has that one. I thought when i saw it that it was the XMas special. Turns out the Muppets also did another special with Mr. Denver as that one is all about a camping trip. Not a bad special but its not Xmas. Cover shouldn't change(if it gets a release) from the CD ![]()

If its like the vhs copy. I do remember them cutting out the 'There's no Place Like Home for the Holidays' song between Miss Piggy and Kermit when she is found and arrives at the farm by sled. On the video they just do a musical chime and cut straight to inside the farm house for the carols and bunking arrangements. Its funny because when its on tv that song is always played but the 'LOVE HANGERS, LOVE HANGERS' from animal and gonzo scene is cut out.
