Mel Brooks On DVD

Has there been any mention of the less popular Mel Brooks movies on DVD? Here are the ones I am waiting for...

High Anxiety
Robin Hood Men In Tights
Dracula Dead And Loving It
Silent Movie

I think the most recent one I saw on DVD was the MGM cheapie of Life Stinks. I believe most of these are Fox movies, I wish they would come out soon!

I love Mel Brooks films (atleast the older ones) and I wouldn't mind having Silent Movie & Robin Hood Men in Tights on DVD, I can't believe these two haven't been released over here yet, you would think there would be a high enough demand for them.

Definitely High Anxiety but one which I haven't seen for a long time and would love to see on DVD is his 1970 film The Twelve Chairs starring a very young Frank Langella. A Russian tragedy made into a great comedy by Brooks.

Not to be a thread crapper but I hated Men In Tights and Dracula: Dead and Loving It. And Life Stinks is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Outside of that, Silent Movie and High Anxiety are much anticipated.

Yes, BUT, Men In Tights has Dave Chappelle in it, thus I need it in my collection.

Not if you get a superb OAR transfer with DD 6.1?

The Twelve Chairs had been released on DVD, but it looks like it's out of print. Go to mall type stores that sell DVDs-Sam Goody, Musicland, Suncoast, Coconuts, etc.-usually nobody goes in there to look for older obscure titles. They often only buy whatever the hotter new releases and more popular catalog titles. So you may still find something like that there. It'll be full MSRP, but still cheaper than what you'll probably pay for it on ebay since it's OOP.

This is only my opinion, but I feel like THe Producers, Blazing Saddles & Young Frankenstein are the only Mel Brooks titles a person really need. Maybe History of the World Part 1 for some people, but I can do without. High Anxiety, well, the more you know about Hitchcock, the more you'll probably like it but anyone else would probably be lost. There isn't any other Mel Brooks movie I have an overwhelming need to own, or even watch again.

I want to be able to hear Silent Movie's two words or dialogue in decent 5.1 - that's all.

Plus To Be Or Not To Be (wasn't this announced?)

Politically we remain miles apart, lar, but in terms of movies, I always find myself agreeing with you. I was physically ANGRY after paying to see Life Stinks in the theater...if Mel had walked up to me then, I might (no, would) have punched him in the nose.

And Men in Tights and Dracula are, IMO, lame attempts to recapture the glories of Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. Emphasis on the lame.

High Anxiety, on the other hand, is worth owning just for the musical number ("Hey........ziety!")

How about a nice Blazing Saddles release. The only thing I can find out there is a 4:3 format with no extras.

On Davis DVD today:

Warner Home Video's next batch of two-disc special editions due in May will include Blazing Saddles: 30th Anniversary Special Edition. Unfortunately, there are no official details on disc specs, street dates or exact nature of extras yet.

I thought the 2.35:1 widescreen laserdisc edition was on DVD too, with a 55 minute Mel Brooks interview?

It's a weird one, as the interview actually runs as a commentary, with Brooks obviously watching the film as it is scene specific. Then he just kind of wraps up, at the end of the first side of the LD, and doesn't come back for side two?

I know I've seen this listed on a DVD...perhaps region 2?

No, BubbleGum, you are right. Here are the R1 features on the current disc:
  • Production Notes

    Theatrical trailer(s)

Exclusive 55-minute audio interview with director Mel Brooks

    Full-screen and widescreen anamorphic formats

Yeah, if memory serves, Blazing Saddles is a flipper and is definitely a 16X9 widescreen transfer.

Just in case you don't want to wait for the SE coming out.

Actuually will wait for the 2-disc SE now that it is on its way. A little disappointed I could have had my Blazing Saddles fix by now...

Phew - glad I wasn't losing my mind over that r1 edition with the interview.

I never cross-graded from that laserdisc issue to the current DVD, but will probably get the 2-disc DVD. What'll they fill it with, me thinks?

I really would like to see The 12 Chairs sometime and will eventually check the web for it. This will never show up in any stores near me.

Am I brain dead cause I really enjoyed Life Stinks? The dance number with Lesley Ann Warren was hysterical. And the completely insane performance by Rudy DeLuca was so funny!

History of the World is a must IMO. "The Inquisition" and Madeline Khan's performance as she picks out her men for the night. Gregory Hines' shim-sham dance is terrific. Remember "It's Good to be the King?". Wow, I watch this over and over and over!

Young Frankenstein ("Were wolf." "There wolf"), Spaceballs, High Anxiety, Robin Hood (Dave Chapelle as Ah Choo, come on he's so cool!), and Blazing Saddles ("All right, we'll take the jews and niggers, but no Irish!"; "They said you was hung!" "And they was right!") are musts. Dracula is kind of weak, but I just enjoy Peter MacNichol's performance oh-so-much.

I have never seen Silent Movie without commercials, so it would be a treat and I may actually love it, on DVD.

The worst has to be To Be or Not to Be. I hated that movie.

The 12 Chairs looks like it has been released in the UK in the past:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...480599-4315603

PLUS...I saw a great looking Brooks set (digi-pak) out in the UK too while I was Christmas shopping. Amazon doesn't seem to have it, and I had trouble finding anywhere with a picture. It had High Anxiety, Silent Movie, To Be Or Not To Be and either History Of The World or Young Frankenstein - can't remember which.

It was DEFINITELY a four-disc set, but the nearest I could find online was this Australian set, with only three movies:
http://www.fbo.com.au/movie.asp?ID=8642

Oh, wait...found it - it's a UK HMV Exclusive:
http://www1.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/display...;-1&sku=328548

Why can't we have something like this in region 1 land??

I just read that 20th Century Fox is working with Mel Brooks on a box set of his movies, set to hit shelves in November, details are sketchy but Men In Tights will be released, in August there will be a formal annoucment.

Here is the link from IGN:
