August 15, 2003 - Apparently, there will only be one Platinum Edition released next year (Aladdin), and the bi-yearly March & October schedule will take effect in 2005. From DVDFile's Special Report on The Lion King with producer Don Hahn, and Disney execs Gordon Ho and Andy Fiditsky:

Will you ever be adding any titles to the original ten selected for the Platinum Edition treatment, such as Lilo & Stitch or any Pixar titles?

Gordon Ho: Right now, as plans are solidified we will make announcements. But there has been no plans for announcements in the area of a title like Lilo & Stitch or one like that. You'll have to wait and see.

Check the FAQ page. It's the closest thing to a revised schedule we have at this point, but some of it is just speculation. 2-a-year will begin in 2005.

2 Platinums a year in 2005 is terrific. It's really the only way if Disney hopes to get them all out before the next technology arrives. I really hope the Simpsons DVD sets will follow suit because they're are so many more seasons to go.

I like this pic of Disney's schedule:

I love the way the Platinums are a big joke.

First off - Snow White - great!

Beauty And The Beast - different packaging - not so packed - bad cropped transfer (1.85:1 my arse!) - number I on the box to promote the s**t video sequels

Lion King - different packaging again - seperate deluxe box available when all the others in this "prestigous" line shiould have the same - not even all the features from the LD ported over - new crap

Later down the line - added titles as they feel like it - repackaged editions as Platinums (Sleeping Beauty) - new versions of SEs already out in other countries (Peter Pan) - new crap...

(BTW, I love Disney - buy all their stuff, but hate the way the PEs are being messed around). Wish they'd stuck to the original ten in similar packaging - the straps on the Lion king banners aren't even the same color!!

I'm exceedingly pleased with the 14 title Platinum line. But I wish they were all on the same level: same packaging; all packed SEs with everything of note from the laserdisc ported over and then some; all with numbers on the spine to represent the order the Platinums were released (Snow White I, Beauty and the Beast II, Lion King III, Aladdin IV, etc.); and all arriving in basic 2-disc editions and gift sets for the obsessed collector, not just select titles. More rant later if I think about it, maybe.

I agree with Jake... it would have been cool to have them all lined up next to each other...
