Nope, it's not just you. As an Aladdin fanatic I am disgusted by this mock press release and am sorry to say that it originated at one of my favorite Disney forums and is the work of someone there whom I regard as a real idiot.

Not only is this a really stupid mockup, but it can be seen as almost an intended insult to all of the people who put a lot of hard work into making the Platinum Editions something special. Granted, the Beauty and the Beast set left off some things I really would have liked to see included, as will The Lion King and almost assuredly Aladdin, but the Platinums are still some of the best DVD works I've ever seen and I'm not amused by these comments.

Speaking of Aladdin, wasn't this supposed to be released on IMAX this Christmas?

IT was advertised as such before The Lion King last Christmas, but it's unclear what's happening with it. Might just be a TBA 2004, but I'm sure it will be happening at some point, even if Disney has reportedly been disappointed by IMAX rerelease returns.

Is the Aladdin Personality Profile Game created in conjunction with the FBI's Profiling Department? Sounds like a winner! Since it is a Disney product, shouldn't it be called the Silence Of The Mice?!

That's not starting until March 2005, but to confuse things even further, it seems as if last September's Sleeping Beauty release IS being considered part of the Platinum Collection now. I think us collectors care a whole lot more about the "Platinum line" than Disney does at this point.

Does anyone know what the "real" specs are for this disc. Just finished watching Lion King for the 3rd time since purchase and it got me "jonzen" for others such as Aladdin and the Little Mermaid. Then I see this thread (which is brilliant I might add) and it got me thinking about the release date/specs for this disc.

Okay...no joke this time...not a full specs list but the following has been posted at ultimatedisney.com's forum.

Sounds like they may essentially be releasing the in-limbo IMAX version, a la Beauty and the Beast and Lion King, complete with "new song" which I'm sure everyone will LOVE.

Disney Uncorks 'Aladdin' DVD

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The Walt Disney Co. is restoring the 1992 animated feature "Aladdin" for its Oct. 5 DVD debut, studio executives said.

"The marketing campaign is going to be even bigger than we had for 'Finding Nemo,"' said Robert Chapek, president of Disney's Buena Vista Home Entertainment arm.

"Aladdin" marks the third title to be released in Disney's DVD Platinum Series, following the reissues of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "The Lion King."

"Snow White" has sold about 7 million combined DVD and VHS units to consumers since its fall 2001 rerelease, and "The Lion King" has topped 11 million since its reissue last year.

"The October release time frame has provided us with the longest legs on such titles," Chapek said. "It gives us big initial sales, and then these classic titles tend to get a second sales boost during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday shopping season."

Featuring a remixed 5.1 surround sound home theater track, the "Aladdin" double-disc DVD also will include a deleted song called "Proud of Your Boy" by Academy Award-winning songwriters Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. The film features the voices of Robin Williams (news), Scott Weinger, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (news).

"The song was edited out of the first version," Chapek said, "but we're planning to bring it back along with the original pencil test drawings of a scene featuring Aladdin's mother."

He added that Disney already has lined up at least nine major cross-marketing partners, including McDonald's, Kellogg's, Mattel, Fisher-Price and Kleenex.

Wouldn't it be 4th?

After Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.

Yes, it would. Somebody was asleep at the wheel when they wrote that.

It would appear that those who do the news for IMDB have forgotten about Beauty and the Beast.

'Aladdin' Gets Go-Ahead for DVD

Disney's 1992 feature Aladdin will become the fourth animated "classic" from the studio to be released on DVD, the company's Buena Vista Home Entertainment announced Thursday. The movie, to debut in retail outlets on Oct. 5, follows the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Lion King and Alice in Wonderland as part of the studio's DVD Platinum Series. The new restoration of Aladdin is expected to include the musical number "Proud of Your Boy" by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, that was cut from the original production. (In the just-released DVD version of Alice in Wonderland, restorers inserted a long-lost song by the Cheshire Cat, "I'm Odd.")
Even stranger that they say Aladin will be Disney's fourth animated "classic" to be released on DVD.
Disney labels almost all of their animated movies "classic" so this is most certainly not their fourth one to hit DVD.

i was just about to post the same quote from imdb. in addition to your point, alice in wonderland is not part of the platinum edition line.
