Nothing to my statement other than I wonder why you feel the need to respond to a topic when you have nothing to say.

I did have something to say... I said "hey this is a lot to work through" considering all the great titles... what's your problem?

Ummm, you DIDN'T leave Jackie Brown off that list, moogle. She's your Number Nine. So that leaves the other two....was there another third?

Pretty much in order:

Pulp Fiction (1994)
Almost Famous (2000)
Fargo (1996)
Boogie Nights (1997)
Jackie Brown (1997)
L.A. Confidential (1997 - geez, that was a good year)
Out Of Sight (1998)
Rushmore (1998)
Donnie Brasco (1997)
Office Space (1999)

Mur, I've seen eight of the ten movies on your list and they're all excellent. I especially love Gangs Of New York. I haven't seen Election or Amelie, but they're both on my Netflix queue.

Moogle - Chasing Amy is another favorite of mine, as is High Fidelity.

I've seen all these and the great part is they're probably all in my top 20!! Pulp Fiction would probably be a lot higher on my list if I hadn't watched it so many times I got a little worn out! Great list!

Move them to the top of your Netflix queue. I think, based on your tastes, that you'll really like both of them.

I think it was Moogleporn's first post (of course I can't say for sure it's not me) way of saying he thinks the thread is a good idea (I think so too) but it will take him a while to pare it down to his favorite 10.

Now I've responded to the thread and I don't have a list ready.

I know for sure the ones going in there are: --in no order--

1)The Thin Red Line
2)The Talented Mr. Ripley (that movie creeps up again!)
3)Fargo
4)Schindler's List
5)Braveheart and Titanic (not the greatest of films, but great examples of "epic" films)
6)Crumb
7)Pulp Fiction

The rest of the honorable mentions goes to films like: Eyes Wide Shut, The Insider, Good Will Hunting, L.A. Confidential, Secrets and Lies, The Sweet Hereafter, Dead Man Walking, Shawshank Redemption......umm, Patch Adams?

I would love to see Hoop Dreams soon. I noticed my list does seem to ignore foreign cinema and that's because I admit I haven't been able to catch many of them and some are plain hard to find. (especially Scorsese's favorite two: "The Horse Thief" and "A Borrowed Life")

Schindler's List would have to be left out because it was released in 1993. This thread is for 1994-2003 films. Not that I don't think Schindler's List is one of the most amazing films I've ever seen. I'm glad I still have that laserdisc.

Gattaca and Lolita are strange choices. I did not like Gattaca when I saw it in theatres, but I was young... may be time to give it a second try. Lolita I have never seen because I love the original so much. Which do you preffer?

I know I'm missing stuff on here. Also there are a lot of films I still need to see (the rest of P. T. Anderson's work and some David Lynch for instance), but here we go:

1. Royal Tenenbaums (W. Anderson, 2001)
2. Pulp Fiction (Q. Tarantino, 1994)
3. The Truman Show (P. Weir, 1998)
4. Bottle Rocket (W. Anderson, 1996)
5. Spirited Away (H. Miyazaki, 2001)
6. Adaptation (S. Jonze, 2002)
7. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (A. Lee, 2000)
8. Big Lebowski (Coens, 1998)
9. Punch-Drunk Love (P. T. Anderson, 2002)
10. Rushmore (W. Anderson, 1999)

And I had to do it...

11. South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut (T. Parker, 1999)
12. Eat Drink Man Woman (A. Lee, 1994)
13. Signs (M. N. Shyamalan, 2002)
14. The Sixth Sense (M. N. Shyamalan, 2000)
15. Clerks (K. Smith, 1994)
16. Life is Beautiful (R. Benigni, 1997)
17. About a Boy (Weitz, 2002)
18. Cowboy Bebop: KoHD (S. Watanabe, 2001)
19. Princess Mononke (H. Miyazaki, 1997)
20. Moonlight Mile (B. Silberling, 2002)

Well that's ten off the top of my head (in no particular order) and I already know I have left some off. I haven't even got a Coen film on there... Rushmore springs to mind, as does Being John Malkovich, American Psycho and Solaris (2002).

I need to rethink this list.

Like other people, I couldn't resist the urge to make a second list.

Three Kings (1999)
American Beauty (1999)
O Brother Where Art Thou? (2000)
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Gangs Of New York (2002)
Chasing Amy (1997)
High Fidelity (2000)
Traffic (2000)
A Mighty Wind (2002)
And since I'm already cheating by going beyond ten, I'll cram the Lord Of the Rings movies into one spot.

If you're judging it by the preview clips included on the TT theater cut then I'll have to let you slide... they really do look fantastic! But if you managed to see it somehow all I can say is you suck!
