non-anamorphic criterion

Does anyone know if criterion has any plan to re-release discs that were oroginlly non-anamorphic as anamorphic? I would love an an anamorphic Yojimbo and Sanjuro, and there are a few others (why oh why was Silence of the Lambs non-anamorphic?)

Anyone, anyone? Bueller?

I doubt it, but you never know. A lot of them will certainly NOT be (Silence of the Lambs, Robocop) becuase they are no longer Criterion's to release. The best way to do this is email them, as I have about a few titles, and see what happens.

Probably because they used the Criterion laserdisc as the "master" for the DVD release. Just a guess...

Peace...

Becuase the disc, like most earlier Criterion discs, was simply a port of the Laserdisc.

Here is a list of widescreen Criterion titles with an aspect ratio wider tahn 1.66:1 that are currently not anamorphically enhanced, and are not OOP...

Amarcord
Walkabout
The Naked Kiss
Shock Corridor
High and Low
The Long Good Friday
Flesh For Frankenstein
Blood For Dracula
Andrei Rublev
Time Bandits
Branded to Kill
Tokyo Drifter
Armageddon ()
And the Ship Sails On
Brazil
Yojimbo
Sanjuro
The Night Porter

...and I believe that is all. Hopefully these will all get some kind of anamorphic reissue.

Of course, then that'll give some of us something new to complain about, as we'll have to double-dip, especially if they ever did it with Brazil.

Actually, I think it'd be cool if they offered an anamorphic rerelease of just the first disc of Brazil, with Gilliam's commentary, as a stand-alone disc, then also offered at a discount to anyone who bought the big-ass box set. The doc materials, to my recollection, go back and forth between letterboxed and full-frame anyway. And who gives a shit about seeing the Love Conquers All version looking all prettified?

And with the deluxe Time Bandits coming out, I doubt you'll see a Criterion re-release.
