Why Isn't Everybody Loves Raymond Out Yet?

I've searched through previous threads and couldn't find anything, so I figure'd I'd see if anyone knew what was up. Everybody Loves Raymond has been on TV for awhile now, it's one of the most-watched shows on TV, and it just bagged a bunch of Emmys. Why hasn't it been released on DVD yet? Are there any plans for it? I haven't heard anything, and I'd love to see some season sets. Anyone know?

Worth too damn much in syndication, to release a DVD set significantly reduces it's value.

That wouldn't have anything to do with it. Friends and other highly rated syndicated shows are on DVD. Seinfeld DVDs are also in the works and they just signed a deal with TBS to broadcast until 2011.

I'm sure Raymond will be released later on. Maybe they want to finish up the series before they start releasing them. It's not even on in syndication here.

Yes, yes it does. larphillips was right. You can't tell me that DVD releases would not impact syndication values. Friends and Seinfeld are a little bit different in terms of popularity and I'm certain that the Friends DVDs lower the value of the syndicated show.

Man, that's on like five times a day here. That wouldn't surprise me if syndication had something to do with it. But you never know.

I know that syndication is indeed the culprit here. Just as it held up shows like Friends and Seinfeld from getting onto DVD for years before the first discs started hitting production.

Further, the ownership is a bit muddy on this one, as it is co-produced by HBO (strange) and Worldwide Pants (stranger...that's David Letterman's production company!). It's "distributed" (i.e. broadcast) on CBS in first-run and syndicated in reruns by King World (Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Oprah, Hollywood Squares, Dr. Phil, Inside Edition, etc.).

King World required a window of opportunity for syndication before it can hit home video. The deal was signed a few years ago (1999 or 2000, I believe), before the other parties involved saw Fox float concepts like that of 24 or Malcom In The Middle (get them on DVD positioned as promo items for the new season), which HBO quickly adopted their Sopranos and SitC releases to fit.

I have no idea how long the window is, but you'll just have to sit back and wait for DVDs of this one. Sorry!
