The World Is Not Enough....M's Daughter??

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

I was watching TWINE over the weekend and while watching, I got a feeling that Elektra King (Sophie Marceau) was M's daughter.

There were two clues that I picked up on. The first one was when M was telling Bond about when Elektra was kidnapped by Renard. She said something along the lines of her using her "Motherly instincts" while trying to plan a release for her.

The second clue was when Bond killed Elektra and M walked in. The look on her face when she saw Bond standing over Elektra's dead body was one of total shot and horror.

I've read that Judi Dench won't be back as M in the next Bond movie. Maybe this is a way of writting her out of it. Bond killed her daughter and now she can knowlonger work with him.

Any thoughts?

Dammit, I REALLY wish you guys would think about putting up spoiler warnings before you go off and say things like "When Bond killed Elektra"!!!!!

Not everybody (including myself) has seen this film yet.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Oops...sorry. I was kidding. He doesn't do anything to her but...well, you know. He does regular BOND stuff to her.

Well, not exactly an old film, since it just came out on DVD this last week.

But common courtesy on the forum is to put up a *** Spoiler Alert *** when you are talking about major plot points...

Really though taxi... I caught this one last weekend and thought that it really bit the big one. It seemed like it was really trying to be a bond film, but never quite got there.

But if you are a Bond fan like me, you'll still have to one day see it

Chromy I must disagree,

I thought TWINE was the best of the Brosnan Bonds (even though he looks a bit old). Sophie Marceau, Denise Richards, and that chick at the start from IL POSTINO are among the all-time best Bond girls. I've seen every Bond at least once, and thought this was probably the best since OCTOPUSSY.

I think the editing during the action scenes could have been a bit tighter (the ones in TOMORROW NEVER DIES were better), and the overall plot and style wasn't as slick as GOLDENEYE, but I really thought this was a great Bond.

And this DVD is by far the best in the BOND Collection. There is a great feature that takes you inside particular stunt sequences in an elaborate montage of documentary, stills, drawings and storyboards. Even one for that cool opening title sequence.

Highly recommended!

I don't think he looks any older than Connery when he was doing the Bonds. I'd have to agree though, this Bond was not bad, he seems to have gone more to the Connery roots, as the film reminded me of a few of those Bond films. I still like Goldeneye the most out of the 3 Bronsan films, but I'm going to miss Q.

I just watched TWINE again in it's entirety. Have to say that upon second viewing it's more of a tough call. I guess I like a lot of the stuff here, but GOLDENEYE, as Clortho says, is probably a more credible Bond entry, and in the true spirit of the series.

TWINE has some problems I overlooked the first time, but still holds up very well. I prefer the story and action scenes in TWINE, and as I said before, the women (though GOLDNEYE had great babes, TOMORROW NEVER DIES didn't)

So, it's a close call. I really didn't care for GOLDENEYE when I saw it at the theatre. But I've really grown to like it, Brosnan and the disc. Anyway, there's something in all three to enjoy.

Nope

Back to the orriginal question...

*** SPOILER ***
I think that it is possible... seeming that there was a strong connection between M and that guy, that and M's weird face at the end... However, if there was a maternal "thing" going on here, I suspect that there may have been more clues.

It could just be that M and that guy (what was his name again?) were close friends, and Electra was like a daughter to her.

***May contain spoiler and/or traces of peanuts***
I think the M's daughter idea is foolish. This is a Bond film, there's nothing beneath the surface, and M doesn't act any differently toward Bond at the end of the film. She's worried about where he is. It's fun to have theories about these kinds of things, but save those for more sophisticated works, where they might hold weight.

I hate it when people do it with the STAR WARS films even worse though. No, Elektra is not supposed to be M's daughter.

As an administrator of this forum, I'm obligated to read every post, and point out and/or fix problems where I see them.

If you're going to put spoiler information in a post/thread, then you need to put **Spoiler** or somesuch in the thread title, or at the beginning of the thread, to warn those who haven't seen the movie yet. It's just common courtesy.

***SOME SPOILERS***
What's wrong with trying to read deeper into a movie? Not all movies are mindless. It is a good think to exercise that thing between your ears from time-to-time. I personally felt that it looked as is she (M) was upset that he (Bond) had killed her (Elektra), so I was asking for other peoples opinions. If you don't feel she was her daughter, that's your opinion. You may be totally right, or you may be totally wrong.

Thanks for your reply.

Good idea. I haven't gone back since I first watched the movie last weekend. That will be something good to do this holiday weekend.

I got the same impression, so you may be right about the daughter thing. Bond, or not, I think any film has the opportunity to have a hidden deeper meaning. I to need to go back and see of the comintary track makes any mention of the "relationship" between M and Electra(ooo, HOT)
