Haven't heard anything, but can hardly wait. It's been months since I unloaded my Alien Legacy box set in anticipation. I definitely thought we'd have a date by now.

Nope, nothing official yet, although it's been announced that region 2 is getting it mid-December.

I was hoping to make this my #1 Christmas request, but now who knows.

I thought perhaps they were holding off since the theatrical re-release of Alien is coming up. Perhaps they figured an official announcement before the re-release would undercut box office for the alternate cut, since it will apparently be included on the DVDs. But...region 2 is apparently official, and let's face it, everyone KNOWS this is coming soon anyway, so all I can say in summary is...

It might be...

...on it's way for December 8th, as this is when the UK Quadrilogy hits the shelves here.

Better just whisper that, or it might get banished to the off world colonies...

December 16 is one date that I saw for it, maybe on the Digital Bits, but I don't think it's official, as I had seen another site have a date of mid-November, which I highly doubt is correct.

Fox already has League of Extraordinary Gentlemen scheduled for a December 16 release, so it's unlikely they'll release the Alien Quadrilogy on the same day. My guess is now a January or February release at the earliest.

Why the rush? If this is supposed to be the ultimate Alien box set, I'd rather they take their time to get it right instead of screw something up.

I can't wait for this set. I'm glad it includes both the theatrical and extended versions of all four films. From what I read in the Digital Bits' book, the only bad news is that Alien and Alien3 I believe won't have DTS. I may be mistaken, but I know two of the films will have DTS and two won't. I hope I can get a decent price for my Alien Legacy set. I'm going to keep the Legacy disc since I've heard it won't be in the new set, unless that has changed. I didn't see mention of it in the book.

I'm definitely going to have to pick up their book. I just glanced over the other day in the store and really liked what I saw. I would have bought it then, but it is $5 cheaper at Amazon.

Has anyone heard whether Alien will include both soundtracks like it does in the current DVD?

If that is true they're making a huge mistake. I would think a lot of the sales would come from Christmas spending, otherwise unless it's a really good price I think sales will be low.

News...

If it is of any help, we were in London for a screentest on friday, and we popped into the HUGE branch of Virgin on Oxford street, and they were proudly advertising the Alien Quadrilogy, to be released on the 8th December.

Believe us, they would only advertise so heavily if the date was set in stone, as they have their reputations to think of.

It all depends if the US releases will follow suit.

Why buy both? I'm pretty sure the content on both sets is identical. I'm gonna pick up whichever set is released first (which looks like it's gonna be R2), i just hope R2 gets the same awesome artwork as the R1 release.

The UK copy has differing packaging to the US. Dunno which is better, but it can be found here:

Alien 3 changes...

10 years ago, we had the pleasure of meeting Martin Astles, who did makeup effects for Alien 3. He regaled us with the various problems & changes that occured during the shoot, including the famed "Ox-burster", created through the facehugger joining with the ox. What ox? Well, originally, the prisoners used a team of oxen to pull the wreckage clear. As scripted, the alien became a "bull-alien", and this was the foe they were taking on.

All very well & good, but when they got the ox to the set to film the "bonding" sequence, it was totally uncooperative, and they realised that something had to be done to make sure the schedule stayed on track. Thus the ox was scrapped and a very easily trainable dog was used instead, producing a "dog-burster".

We have a brief clip of the oxen clearing away the wrecked spaceship, and this might just turn up on the DVD extras.

(Yep, Dassy, a big "hi" to you too..."

Cool.

I have seen footage of the Oxen scene in the past, but never any footage of the Super-Fachugger (Only stills in books and the `Alien 3 Trading Cards).

I`m not even sure if the aformentioned appeared in the Bootleg workprint.

Very, very cool. Unfortunately, I've already put in my Christmas requests so I may have a hard time convincing anyone to buy me an expensive boxed set too. And I'll be dropping major cash on the new Disney Treasures that same day! I guess Christmas is officially December 2 this year.

So this may have to be a Christmas present to myself. And that's not necessarily bad, since it means I won't have to wait an additional three weeks to get it.

USA TODAY confirms the Quadrilogy release date as Dec. 2

For $99.98, this looks to be a MUST-BUY set.

Quote:
The $99.98 set includes versions of the four Alien films not yet seen on home video:

Alien can be watched in the original version or the new director's cut now playing in theaters.

The 1986 sequel, Aliens, is available on DVD for the first time [?], with director James Cameron's special edition as well.

Alien 3 (1992) has more than 30 minutes of new footage.

Alien Resurrection (1997) has alternate opening and ending scenes.

Each movie also has its own accompanying disc of extras, and the ninth disc has a new interview with Alien director Ridley Scott. Scott and Weaver, who starred in all four films, also take part in a new commentary on the film.
Looks like fans get everything they want! Seriously, is ANYONE going to be unhappy with this release?

There's a real glut of releases this Christmas, probably far too many for me to handle. I can't get all the Bond box sets (which go back on moratorium in January), the Walt Disney Treasures sets, Pirates of the Caribbean, Escape from New York:SE, Two Towers: EE, Straw Dogs: CC, the Hitchcock Criterions that are going OOP Dec. 31, To Live and Die in L.A.: SE, and all the other goodies from November & December....not all at once anyway. There's just too much. Hopefully I can grab the majority of these, though, but I might have to miss some great sale bargains.

Oh hey, I forgot to mention this little bit of info that will please those not interested in getting the ENTIRE box set:

Quote:
In total, the Alien Quadrilogy set has about 45 hours of previously unseen material. On Jan. 6, the films will be available individually on DVD for $26.98 each.
So, looks like Fox Home Video is really looking to provide something for everybody.

They also had this included in the last BJs Wholesale Club catalog, no price listed though. So they definitely will have it, and their prices on box sets at least match the best around, sometimes beat it.

Coolest set ever.

I dont want to be a stickler, but i have one complaint: no Fincher commentary -- but oh well, its ok

The DigitalBits has a review up already of half the set (more to follow).

The page seems to be very slow.

9 discs included in fold-out Digipak packaging with slipcase and liner notes booklet

eh, I don't know if I like that at all. Especially if they will be individually packaged on Jan6th when they are available seperate. Alas, we must wait and see until the package is actually shown.

Here's why from the digital bits

There is one area where this set is lacking... the documentary treatment of Alien³. You should know that of the four directors involved in these films, only David Fincher declined to participate in the Quadrilogy production. So you will not find new interviews with him about Alien³, nor will you find audio commentary with him. That's disappointing, but it's unfortunately unavoidable and certainly not unexpected, so you can't really count it against this impressive release. The one real flaw in this box set has more to do with what Fox allowed (or rather disallowed) to be included on the Alien³ supplement disc. We'll address this more later in the review.

I am curious what could be in the Legacy and Saga documentaries that isn't part of the new set. Is there really that mcuh exclusive material that is only in those two separate docs that will not be in the new set in some form?
