Robotech Remastered: Extended Edition

For all the anime/Robotech fans out there:

Robotech Remastered

Quote:
ROBOTECH® SAGA COMPLETELY REMASTERED FOR UPCOMING RELEASE

ROBOTECH REMASTERED: EXTENDED EDITION TO INCLUDE NEW FOOTAGE AND TWO NEW, EXCLUSIVE AUDIO TRACKS; ON SALE JANUARY 27, 2004

HOUSTON, November 19, 2003—ADV Films today announced the release of Robotech Remastered: Extended Edition, a complete remastering of all three acts of Harmony Gold’s classic Robotech, the series that introduced generations of Americans to the art form and cultural phenomenon that is anime. The first DVD volume, which will include the first twelve episodes on two discs with a handsome art box fitting both discs, will go on sale everywhere January 27, 2004.

Often compared to Star Trek and Star Wars, Robotech is a uniquely addictive and complex intergalactic drama drawn across generations, spinning together hard-hitting mecha action and richly developed characters over the course of three acts: The Macross Saga; Robotech Masters; and New Generation. Robotech has become a major merchandising force, with movies, graphic novels, books, and toys incorporating and elaborating on the story.

This newest release from ADV Films features a fresh, clean digital transfer of Robotech from the original film stock, returning the series to a lovely and near-pristine state without compromising the character of the original animation. New footage featuring scenes cut from the original broadcast version of Robotech has been added and also featuring new opening and closing credits and eye catches, creating a never-before-seen version of this seminal adventure series.

Additionally, the audio has been restored and remixed to create the highest-quality sound experience available. Robotech Remastered: Extended Edition ($29.98 SRP) will feature two new audio tracks: the original, classic English-language dub in glorious digital 5.1 sound and a Spanish-language digital 5.1 track. In addition to the upgraded audio, the release is also subtitled in English.
Thankfully I never got my lazy ass around to picking up the original releases. These new ones sound kick ass!!

I'm really interested in the scenes they'll be cutting back in...

But I'll be very disappointed if they don't 'fix' blatant dubbing/editing issues like in "To the Stars" when Rick is obviously talking to MinMei, saying goodbye or something before the final battle and all you can hear is MUSIC.

I've always wondered what kind of editing they did, and what changes from the original they did to make it mass-consumable in AMerica.

Macross was remastered about 2 years ago my animego. here is a link:http://www.animeigo.com/Products/MACROSS.t#2
It is the original Japanese version, with some nudity, etc. Only downside is that it is subtitled only, but the picture quality is just amazing. I wonder just how many of the deleted scenes the Robotech version will add back. (I'm betting they won't be adding back the naked Minme shower scenes )

Very cool. I've held off getting the DVDs for the Macross Saga and Masters because I have the old laserdiscs.

Does this mean they are remastering the Masters and New Generation series also? I've noticed that they've release the unedited Southern Cross and Mospeada box sets but don't know what quality they are.

Are they going to take these visuals and mix in the Robotech soundtrack with them?

This will be very interesting to see.

The ultimate set would be to have the remastered Animeigo videos with the original audio and the Robotech voices mixed it.

Now where the hell is the Macross: Do You Remember Love movie as a Region 1 release, along with Macross 2012 Flashback?!

Well, I guess what I mean is... what I'd like is for a version of Robotech, but with less removed stuff. Keeping the English dub, etc.
Probably impossible, since unless they did it at the time they made Robotech (the English hatch-job that I love), there's no way to do it now.
Back then they made some ugly edits to make their Robotech storyline 'work', and I'd just like to see them done better.
And have the nice picture that it looks like that set has.

And one site mentioned that there wasn't any Minmei nudity in the shower scene. As I remember, that was in "Do You Remember Love?"

In DYRL, there is a full-body shot of Minmei. In the TV series, I think they show her butt and her back, as the camera does a pan upward.

There's also scenes like Fokker looking up Minmei's dress is the 1st episode as he and Rick and talking and drinking the sodas.

The most notable scene cut out of Robotech is probably when Fokker dies, where the Macross version shows the 3 wounds in his back along with bloodied uniform.

Don't hold back man! Tell us how you really feel!

This just figures. I finally broke down and bought the 2 Masters box sets a couple of weeks ago to complete my collection.
