Will we see more DTS from Paramount & MGM?

I'm not trying to start another Dolby vs. DTS thread.I'm just wondering
about these two studios.MGM jumped on the DTS bandwagon 2 yrs.(?)
ago but has only released 2 dvd's with DTS - Hannibal and Die Another
Day-at least as far as I know. Paramount jumped on board last spring
with THFRO,Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. What happened
to the DTS support? Are they going to become another WB-announce
they will start supporting DTS, release a handful of titles and call it good? WB not only dropped DTS ,they still encode soundtracks at the
old,lower bitrate.Why can't they be like Fox,Dreamworks,Beuna Vista/
Disney and New Line at use DTS on a consistant basis? Universal supp.
it,too but I question their logic on how they come up with which title
gets DTS and which one doesn't.They seem to choose titles that will
benefit the least from DTS,like the Story of US, Family Man and that
Monty Pyhton title released last sept.

Like every other piece of propriatory technology, it costs money for the hardware, software, license fees, trademark fees, etc. With the price point of DVD so low, costs have to be cut somewhere.

And you also have to look at who owns that technology. I know Spielberg is (or at least was) an owner. Some of the studios that support it most probably have money in it.

I know that Universal/Dreamworks and Speilberg have invested in DTS.I
also know that it costs money to put that on a disk.Yeah,it's still a little
early to gripe about Paramount since they just jumped on,but what about MGM? I would think they would use it as often as New Line which
I think is a smaller studio aside from The Lord of the Ring.I would just like
to see them use it a alittle more often and not end up like WB.

It all comes down to the fact that Warner, MGM, and Paramount feel that DTS is not necessary for a successful release. Obviously, some of the best selling DVDs have DTS (such as Gladiator). But, the top 5 or so do not have it, so it is obviously not necessary for a successful release. Some of the top titles are:

Finding Nemo
Monsters INc.
Matrix and Reloaded
Both Harry Potters
Two Towers and Fellowship Theatrical Editions

Although most believe, including myself, that DTS can be superior, it is obviously not necessary for the success of a title.

I have no interest in this subject except to correct this misinformation.

Warner never announced they were supporting DTS. The few discs that were released a few years ago with DTS were always intended to be a one-time event. Warner never supported DTS on DVD.

Also, the last several major releases from Warner have used 448 kb/s for the DD 5.1 tracks (that's the highest rate on DVD). I would bet there has been a policy change concerning this and we will see most or all future Warner discs with 448 DD tracks. Additionally, Terminator 3 soundtrack used a different Dialnorm setting rather than the default setting. The T3 track has the Dialnorm increased by 2 dB. This is a first for a feature film from Warner that I am aware of.

Warner supports DTS just not on EVERYTHING: Twister, True Romance, and Interview With a Vampire are all DTS

I think there was a thread on this a while back and it was the same arguement questioning if Warner's supporting DTS. I don't really think it's in their plan except with an occasional new or re-release of something already out there. Paramount has only done the Jack Ryan movies and even then, they only did 3 of the 4. Likewise with MGM. Funny about this thread, I was going to start one asking what studios are actually supporting DTS or even DTS-ES.
As far as I can tell, only New Line and Anchor Bay do this on a regular basis. Dreamworks does although it's only been for Gladiator, and A re-release of the new Haunting. But not many other studios really want to, which is kinda sad. I just got my first high-end receiver and the Lord Of Rings 4-disc sets are absolutely incredible. The difference between my old 5.1 receiver and listening to 6.1 DTS-ES on my new one is a world apart.

If you check out most Asian websites you will see that many major MGM/ PARAMOUNT titles come with dts surround sound. Why they are so reluctant to release dts titles in the U.S is beyond me.If anyone is interested the korean version of Dances With Wolves directors cut (4 discs,2 for d/cut, 1 for theat/cut 1 for extras)with dts comes in a genuine embossed suede leather case complete with leather strap & feather and only costs 35 dollars incl shipping.

No, Warner does not support DTS on anything.

Twister and Interview With The Vampire are part of the "one-time event" I mentioned above. These two titles, along with Lethal Weapon 1,2,3 were released at the same time. These five reissues were the result of some inter-studio politics. No other Warner title has been released with DTS audio before or since.

True Romance (and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and American Outlaws) are not Warner films. These are Morgan Creek films that are distributed by Warner in the US. Morgan Creek supports DTS.

Dreamworks actually has a fe wmore then that, but not all of them are Discrete ES tracks. Chicken Run is an ES track along with supposibly Minority Report. Some watchers have reported it flagging the ES decoder on whiel veiwing the movie. (nothing i can remember on my Marantz SR4300) Plus whoever gets the dvd rights to Master and Commander the movie is infact a DTS-ES track so inetrestingt o see what happens whent he dvd comes out

Well Universal sometimes does it but its never really an official DTS-ES track. (well discrete ES tracks) Jurassic Park 3 is a DTS-ES track. But never mentioned officially on the package

List of DTS DVD's (with mention of ES enable track on side) A little old but shall try and find an updated list.

I think WB will eventually start supporting DTS again (even if its not a Morgan Creek film) I think they should look at their sister/brother company New Line and see how a real dvd package is made. Not complaining about WB much but they could learn a lot from them (too bad they are now considered competitors to each other)
